I don't take this as good news. To me, it means he has not improved. He isn't getting worse though, which is a positive.

All I have to say is I have had the flu many times and I have had COVID. There is absolutely no comparison between the two in my experience. COVID was unlike anything I have ever experienced. Not even close.
It totally depends. My son had it (tested positive PCR not quick tesgt) and my boss had it, just a fever and a couple of days of sniffles. Statistically, most seem to have no noticeable symptoms at all.

TIL that you have a son! Never knew that.

It looks like my son had it in May after spring breaking. Lost taste/smell and has lingering taste issues that we sent him to an ENT to get looked at. The guy said immediately that he had had covid.

Neither had lost taste or anything.

Trying to stay positive, but things just don't look good to me. I would think that if he was responsive, we would have heard. Instead, it is the same critical but stable.

If I had to guess I would go with a cerebral hemorrhage possibly from an arteriovenous malformation. That would explain why he is still critical but stable and unfortunately could mean that he has had basically a massive stroke with permanent neurological damage.

I hope I’m wrong and it’s something he can make a full recovery from. I’m praying for him.

Did he take zinc or use Zicam? What meds did he take or use?

True....both my sons had it and it was relatively minor. They felt sick for a couple of days and then were chomping at the bit to get back to work. I felt like the grim reaper was knocking.
In my little world I’ve seen the same. Many younger folks barely knew they had it....but I do know some who were hit really hard. But mostly the tough cases were older folks. But I never trivialize it with anyone. It can be wicked with little resemblance to any flu I have ever had.

There is an old adage in medicine that when you hear hoofbeats think horses and not zebras. The most common cause of sudden collapse and death in young seemingly healthy athletes in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is a structural defect that causes an outflow obstruction and can also have an associated arrhythmia. Not enough blood is pumped out of the heart and the oxygen demand exceeds the oxygen supply which occurs during vigorous exercise such as playing basketball. Remember oxygen is carried by the red blood cells. Not enough blood (oxygen) is carried to the brain leading to mental loss of consciousness. A comatose state and permanent brain damage can occur even after the brain being deprived of oxygen for as little as 5 minutes.

I'm not giving this a like because I 'like' your statement, but I'm giving it a like because I agree. I feel sick for his family....it doesn't make sense why this kid is in this situation. Damn, lets all pray that he pulls through......amen.

A little over a year ago my wife was out from an aortic dissection (with complications) for over 36 hours after emergency surgery. She’s lucky to be alive, but has an artificial aorta and is back doing everything she did before (including HIT workouts). If it’s something like that then he should be fine in the long run.
Would be nice to get some real information on what happened and what the prognosis is.
Fingers crossed for the kid.

Definitely would be nice to get some kind of info....I'm starting to think that the lack of an update is not a good thing. I pray that I'm wrong.
