Kyle Pitts should abandon his teammates and opt out

What are we FSU? They are bolting in record numbers and they don’t know from week to week if their coach will allow the game to be played.

Hell no. Pitts is a man. He will suit up and go do battle. He is fighting for his teammates.

Do you have an argument? Be useful and type something coherent.

Im saying he didn’t get to choose this time and it was bs...that wasn’t fair to him at all...what if costs him the Mackey? Or a couple spots in the draft? That being said I wouldn’t blame him sitting out the bowl game at a minimum

He plays like a champion and this is a championship game. Didn't see Bammer sit a lot of their folks until the game was in hand. SOLELY this is on Mullen.

To be fair, Kyle himself has said that the medical staffmade the call and he was fine with it. He was legitimately injured against ut and didn’t practice all week.

Just throwing this out there, but what if he does play in a fairly meaningless game, we win handily but he gets hurt on the second possession and isn’t available this week in a championship setting? You don’t think Mullen would be taking some serious heat on here for that? He wasn’t 100% or he wouldn’t have agreed to sitting, and we didn’t lose because of him not playing. And just like the Heisman wasn’t going to be won last Saturday, but likely this Saturday, if he’s 100% and has a great game on a massive stage there will be no Mackey argument for any other TE

What does that have to do with HIS decision on playing in this game? He's not going to bail on his teammates. At least we got a semi-sober response out of you this time.

As far as the Mackey, even missing 3 games he's been so much better than every other TE in the nation I think he still wins it.

Aside from the shoe throw, inability to score in the redzone killed us ( no pitts) first drive, two Redzone fgs another redzone int. Those are all Pitt's specialty. And the inability of our offense to run the ball. So Mullen basically neutered Trask

I get that. But just a FG on the opening drive, just a FG on the sideline Int, just a FG in lieu of the pick-6, and taking a knee with :30 in the half would’ve been a 16 point win, and we’re probably laughing about Marco throwing a shoe. We were forcing things all night, even after it repeatedly burned us. That’s on both Mullen and Trask to a degree. Obviously you want him out there but we could’ve won this game without Pitts very easily.

Gators’ Kyle Pitts lobbied to play against LSU, expects to be 100 percent for SEC championship

If I'm Pitts and I'm cleared by the medical staff then I'd play. If not cleared then I would sit. As sofla stated in his post above it was the medical staff who made the call before the LSU game for Pitts not to play and he followed their advice.

It's been unclear why the medical staff made the decision against not allowing Pitts to play against LSU. I have read that it was due to a "lingering" injury he sustained in the Tennessee game. But what was that injury? It has been several weeks since Pitts sustained the concussion in the Georgia game. Subsequent to sitting out a couple of games he was cleared to return to play for the Kentucky and Tennessee games.

I know that it can take months to recover from a concussion. The symptoms can disappear for even days or weeks and then return out of the blue or the symptoms can return after another seemingly trivial or minor head injury. The following is speculation on my part. I am wondering if after playing in the Tennessee game Pitts' post concussion syndrome symptoms returned for one reason or another and that is why he was held out of the LSU game.

If that is the case then it's not just about an NFL career that is on the line it could be permanent neurological sequelae that are in play.

Kyle Pitts has played this season while risking his future income to win a championship. He took a big hit against them dwags that highlighted those risks. But, he was ready to play and his coaches spit on his efforts and risks in the manner they treated the LSU game overall and in sitting him (then not dressing him for the second half).

He was still in contention (regardless of how realistic this Saturday would be) to win a national title. His coaches took that chance away from him And minimizes his efforts to date with the healthy scratch and dumb comments pre, during, and after the game.

Why does he keep playing now? Only one answer makes any sense - he personally believes we beat Bama. Hard to believe that now, but it’s the only Possible rationale to keep playing and since he got to be just a spectator, I doubt he believes it.

Trask still is playing for a Heisman and to bolster his draft stock after his coach (who refuses to lobby for him for the Heisman) threw him under the bus at halftime of the LSU game.

Coaches recover from tough loses. But, it will be hard to overcome the response to massive stupidity (spanning several weeks leading into LSU) that led to that loss. Pitts may be the first at UF to say enough of that guy.

if we beat Bama, are you less pissed or more?

Its the SEC Championship not some non-playoff bowl game. You play. After this game if he wants to opt out of the meaningless bowl game we will be assigned, I have no issue. But with a Championship on the line, you play.

If this BS is really the case, then just have a semi-pro league where these asshats who only care about the NFL can play. When we get to the point that the best players will sit out CHAMPIONSHIP games, it's a huge blow to college football and cannot be tolerated. Players abandoning their team in championship games due to the NFL should not be recognized or allowed back to the program in any fashion for the rest of their lives. They should also have to repay every single cent of their scholarship. Frankly, they should probably be taken out back and Nancy-Kerrigan'ed. THAT could hurt their draft stock as well.

I don't have any issue with players opting out of the Planters Peanuts Bowl. Also, in the insurance case, usually the SCHOOL foots that bill, not the player.

The schools/NCAA pay for the insurance policy for any of their players who have an insurable interest (i.e. they are projected to be a high draft choice, not even a 1st rounder, but projected to go high in the draft). This has been in place for many years.

Ed Chester (former UF DT) had his family pay the $8000 premium and he got $1 million when he suffered a career ending injury, and this was 20 years ago.

Policy pays for former Gator

Marcus Lattimore, RB at USC under Spurrier, got $1.7 million:

Lattimore set financially despite early retirement

Here's another good article about it, mentions Chester and Miami's Willis McGahee:

ESPN.com: SPORTSBUSINESS - McGahee took out $2.5M insurance policy before Fiesta

Used to run into Ed Chester at the Boys Club in Gainesville after his time at UF. He worked/volunteered there and my buddy's little brother volunteered there during high school. Got paid out and was enjoying his life.

Kyle Pitts should abandon his teammates and opt out?

WTF kind of advice is that? This is an embarrassing thread. He got a scholarship, a UF education and a chance to succeed in the NFL and set himself up for life. Abandon his team/family and sit out the SEC championship game? This is the dumbass stuff that makes a fan base look like idiots.

For whatever it's worth, the OP is playing it as Pitts sitting out is a way to stick it to Mullen, not because of his own selfishness. This really was an anti-Mullen thread and not an anti-Pitts thread.

I'm hard core. I'm going to watch the first two defensive possessions. Then I'm quite sure I'll throw and destroy the remote and have to change channels from the box. I have planned for other activities the rest of the evening.

JDH is much smarter. He'll save himself a remote or worse.
