I can forgive Mullen for the 18 seconds he spotted Bama in the first half that resulted in 4 points and using the timeout to go for 2 point conversion if, and only if, I wake up in the morning and read that fat head todd has been fired.

Serious question...Are we sure that Mullen screwed up the snap at the end of the first half....or did Trask? I’m having a hard time believing the coach said snap and score as quickly as possible and let’s challenge our defense to step up.

With all due respect, he was gifted an unranked QB, a like 14th best HS TE and an athlete that was ranked in the 60s at his position. We can claim that the stars just aligned for Mullen and he had three future all stars on his roster that literally no one saw coming, or we can give a little credit to the development and scheming that he did with them.
Then of course you remember he had that QB behind the Giraffe for two years and wouldn't let Kadarius touch the ball more than twice a game for the first two years either.

:lmao2: yeah, real genius.

Different looking offense, agreed. We will score half as much but he will be so much happier because it is clear by now he will never ever give up the option/keeper offense regardless is going to waste about 30-40% of the plays even with a guy like Trash at QB.

IMO you have to take the TD asap. This offense isn't Bammer. We've looked like abortion in the redzone all year.

I’m always surprised when someone focuses on a mistake (especially early) without understanding that literally every single action after that will be different. Trey Dean could have hung onto the ball and the following play we throw a pick six and they go on to win 62-28 or some shyt.

I definitely felt like they were milking the clock in the 3rd quarter.

Same as I felt after the LSU game. This team has glaring deficiencies most notably in how it's managed and coached. At this point whatever the players do on the field strategically reflects on Mullen - and if it's something he doesn't agree w/ then he should be like Saban, and let them know so they never forget again. I know he's not defensive, but he's nonetheless responsible there too. The crucial management/coaching errors I observed:

3 critical 3rd down stops negated by dumb penalties (21 points scored off).
Not taking an extra 20 seconds off the clock before scoring end of half TD (this was absolutely retarded, minimum 4 points lost there)
A few downs spent on designed RB rushes that all amounted to completely wasted plays.
Incredible lack of urgency, preparedness, and time management on final scoring drive (1 timeout wasted)
Ridiculously stupid 2pt conversation decision, made doubly stupid by wasting a timeout to do it (2nd timeout wasted)

Both timeouts were wasted when it was a near CERTAINTY we were going to need them. I can almost see using 1, so you only have 2 left, and possibly bait Bama into running (vs if we had 3 left, Bama possibly deciding to pass for the 1st, since we could stop the clock and get the ball back with lots of time anyway).

Mullen is frustrating. He needs to get substantially better at game management and strategy. He's too focused on offense alone. If he wants to be an OC, go do that. If you want to be a HC, he needs to get his head on straight and figure out if he continues to operate this way he'll never be elite. Which he is not.

Everyone, including the people covering out practices for 3 years had him behind Franks—who also happened to have the best statistical season up to that point since Tebow in 2018, under Mullen. Everyone missed on Trask. He has also become increasingly better with time. And Toney was a fraction of what he has turned into. He wasn’t a true WR, and it made him very easy to take out of games, which most defenses did. So neither of these players were highly recruited, neither had any noticeable skill set, and both needed work at their craft. But when it all comes together in the final years, let’s blame coaches for them sitting behind other rather than crediting those coaches with their development. Smart.

Think I’ll head back into the thread devoted to laughing at you.

Mullen did exactly what he wanted to do. Just score and leave no time on the clock for Bammer to take it back to a multiple score win.

Just like he did vs Ugly last year.

He was playing for a moral victory which is why he didn't care to do some of your suggestions.

I don't think he did. He looked accurate from the get go. What you don't expect is a guy who can look accurate in a redshirt against the practice squad and who hasn't played actual football for 7 years to do anything but immediately shtt his pants if he gets on the field.

"Everyone missed on Trask." Makes it hard to get much mileage out of the make fun of Donk thread, doesn't it.

Not true at all. Mismanaged time due to overthinking, yes. The rest of that is garbage and you know it. He may not have know exactly how, and may never know how to win these games. But any notion that he was playing for a close loss is moronic.

Not for me to decide. But the kids really seem to be enjoying it.

This wouldn't even be a conversation if we had a championship defense.
This team with the 96, 06, or 08 defense wins this game easily. Hell, we probably win with just about any defense from the past several years.
This is the weakest Gator defense that I've ever seen, and they played pretty damn good considering what they were facing. I'm not making excuses but these guys played with a lot of heart.

Defense gives up 1200 yards and 89 points in two games.

Jesus and Mary Chain that is absolute ****.

The end of the year is where teams show maturity and development.

our defense did the opposite.

**** Todd Grantham.

1) He is a DB not a RB.
2) He was carrying the ball out from his body, but he did have it on the side away from the only prospective tackler he was aware of.
3) He was blindsided by a crushing tackle from the rear and
( other) side. In fact, had it been a block instead of a tackle, it would have been illegal. Saw one called in another of today's games.

In that tackle, the "WR-turned-tackler" viciously speared Dean's chest with his helmet -- only his helmet. It was only different from the hit that knocked Pitts out in that it was from that odd angle. In the aftermath, Dean was similarly shaken as Pitts was. The ball would have been dislodged by the helmet-bash no matter how it was held.

Overall, our players played their best of all year. Bama is a monster on a roll-tide. Gators gave them their best game. Grantham guarantees losses. I sympathize with the D-players, in that they get poor practice training and poor in-game directions. Our Gators did well for the coaching they've had to work with. They lost by 6 to the #1 champions of 2020. Especial most obvious thanks to Toney, Pitts, and Trask.

Well, that sucked. It didn't suck as badly as I thought it would, but it still sucked.

Todd Grantham cost us an SEC championship and cost Trask a Heisman.

Very proud of the team. We played a team with the best coach in the game and possibly in history as well as better players overall. Alabama has crushed everyone they played.

It came down to an onside kick.

I never wanted Mullen. But I am not too proud to say he improved our program considerably. Tonight he called a great game. Not perfect....but great. Particularly on the one thing that frustrated many of you....running Trask.

On the other hand Grantham must go. The disorganization in lining up and the complete lack of tackling fundamentals is coaching. Neither require an ounce of talent. Just proper coaching. I’m a longtime basketball coach not a football coach. But I could fix both problems easily just through instruction and then holding players accountable. He’s got to go.

I’ll add the repeated confusion on coverage consistently leaving guys wide open.

Play of the night may have been Dean’s INT then fumble. The way he wrestled the ball away was GREAT. It showed a toughness in the secondary that we haven’t seen all year. If he doesn’t fumble...(and I think it was a questionable hit.) But that’s why Bama is so hard to beat.

We showed the world - including recruits - that we belong in the conversation.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. A better coached team would have won tonight.

While the many unforced mistakes contributed to our defeat, that fumble was forced unlike the several penalties and dropped passes.

A decent running game and running defense might have made a difference. I do wonder why it was said this is the last game for this team. Surely a bowl game is in our future, and I would hope most if not all of the players would participate. Perhaps some will opt out getting ready for the draft.
