Napier now perceived front runner.

@FootballScoop: Report: New leader in the clubhouse for Auburn job Report: New leader in the clubhouse for Auburn job

I have several regrets in my life that I try not to dwell on. I've made wrong trading/investment decisions at times. I dated a girl with a coke problem and maybe the most annoying Korean mother on the planet for way too long. And Lord knows I'd probably have a beach house if I'd never been introduced to Rachels or Scores. But I have to say, none of those things compare to my regret that I was never able to work my way onto one of Nick Saban's staffs. It's unreal what that does for your future.

All the weirdness this year meant G5 teams didn't play many/any P5 teams and the ones they did play were early in the season and weren't fully ready yet. That makes the G5 coaches look artificially better than they are. Hugh Freeze can win in the P5, but as for the others, I think a lot of the P5 teams picking up G5 coaches are going to come to regret their hires this cycle. It'll be interesting to see how many of them actually work out.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: Billy Napier was someone #Auburn was very interested in, but sources tell me the Louisiana head coach is expected to remain with the Ragin Cajuns, and is very excited about the direction of their program and what they're building there.

This is surprising, if he was indeed their top choice. Is he waiting for Alabama? He was said to have asked for $5 million from South Carolina and that eliminated him from that job (they paid Beamer $2.75 million, way out of the $5 million ballpark figure). He could be waiting out LSU, but Saban has to be nearing the end.

Dude turned down auburn to stay at a lesser job. Weird times.

Isn’t this the guy who orchestrated the intentional safety, up only five points, instead of punting from near midfield? If so, as much as I’m not dismissing BMF’s thought process, I’d say it’s also possible the guy has a touch of Down syndrome that may be playing a role here.

@dennisdoddcbs: Hearing Sarkisian did not interview at Auburn. Bill Clark apparently interviewing this afternoon.

Translation: He’s due to arrive at the Auburn airport in 50 minutes. How can Feldman write that crud with a straight face? The guy easily stands to quadruple his current salary if he lands that job. No, we get the classic BS line: “We’ve got something meaningful we’re building here in the middle of a mosquito-infested swamp in Eastbumphuck, LA.”

I've never even heard of Bill Clark.

sarkisian probably can't drive that far. his breathalyzer interlock only lets him go back and forth to work.
