That’s sort of the irony here. The vols were just sure that they could do better than Fulmer, who’d actually been in decline for 5 years. They’ve had Kiffin, Dooley, Jones and Pruitt, the past 12 years(possibly looking for #5 this off-season), have missed bowl games most of those years, and are a complete dumpster fire that may need a decade to correct.

And yet that’s the mentality that several here are employing. Anyone would be an upgrade over Mullen. They’re lining the street with better options and slam dunk candidates. That’s where some of us say, no thanks. I want to see improvements but will take my chances on what we have right now going forward rather than risk that. As I’ve said 100 times, what made Mullen the right hire was that he wasn’t another wrong hire(see Frost, Kelly, Brohm, anyone else Law preferred, etc). Doesn’t necessarily mean he takes us back to the top. But he wasn’t the guy to further destroy the program and has done some good.

Btw, none of this diminishes the fact that this thread is Top-5 worst ever. I’m not championing that view at all. Then again, I’m not hammered midday either, so bear with him.
I still say he was the best we could get at the time and has brought much needed stability at a crucial time in our history. We were so close to becoming UT.
I want Grantham gone yesterday and I want relentless recruiters on staff, but I’ll keep Mullen around until we KNOW we have the right guy lined up to take us to the next level. I don’t ever want to endure another decade of Chump and Butters ball!

My mother was pregnant with me and at every home game in 1979. I was so livid I popped out two weeks early the following Spring just to get a head start on getting things fixed.
You popped out two weeks early because I put her into early labor by laying pipe to her behind the snack bar at every home game. I've been wanting to share this with you for awhile since this information should help explain to you why you have those dents on the top of your head and an unnatural fear of whack-a-mole games in case you've ever wondered. I think I also may have damaged your "brevity in writing" cortex, but that's actually turned out to be a beneficial mutation for you, so, you're welcome?

The amusing part is you could be a hugely successful business tycoon, military hero, dedicated family man, respected deacon in your church, donate heavily to those in need and win championships as a volunteer coach in the community.but God forbid you enjoy Gator sports....win, lose or draw....and support the players and programs....then you are a loser. Why? Because you support mediocrity and anyone who does that is a loser. Winners refuse to accept anything but championships from their college teams.

Coach is just an old dude (as I am )who grew up with the Gators. He lived and died with every ups and down and stays loyal to his Gators and enjoys the process. Good on him.
I keep telling my wife we should buy a condo in Gainesville just to attend more games and watch more sports. We could be that older couple in the corner who knows all the players names. I’m more excited about that prospect than she is. Damn.
I’m 53, attended my first game in 71, so I’ve endured some pretty dismal times as a Gator. That makes me want to never go back to that crap. That’s why guys like corch drive me nuts. If everyone thought like him we’d still have Doug Dickey as our HC. It’s called complacency and it’s for losers. We’ve tasted the good stuff and refuse to drink that rot gut whiskey any longer.

I just bought my buddy a bottle of Don Julio Anejo for Christmas. Corch would have us drinking MD 2020 while we reminisce about the first time we got so sick we ended on the pot clutching the bathroom trashcan with liquid squirting from both ends, and remembering it fondly as the intemperate nature of youth.

F that! Give me top-shelf, prime steak, and another GD championship.

We’ve had Pappy’s and will always want it when we can get it. Mullen is like Jake Daniels. It’s pretty good and consistent. Corch wants us to be happy with Old Crow.

JFC is there anyone younger than half-a-hundred around here? It’s like a gawt damned nursing home here - I’m surprised half of you f*cking geriatrics haven’t died of COVID, you old f*cks. I bet the ratio of jitterbugs to posters is off the charts.

So...we are ok with being where Tennessee has been for the last 15 or so years...or that's what I'm reading.
Exactly.

Welcome back to realism. I thought we lost you there for a while. Although Mizzu might be a better comparison.

My issue is not Mullen's Offense or his QBs. He is HC...its all his team...and he has a top paid DC who is clueless.

His pressers are almost as bad as the Defense.

I am happy with our progress since Chump and Butters but this is year 3. What is so sad is our Defense will always suck under Grantham.

He sucked at UGA, at MSU, at UF...why should we expect more?

That's because all you young punks are obsessed with someone's mother or are clueless how the world works.

It's you young jerks who can't appreciate Kerwin Bell, Fun and Gun, and Gator Growl.

We damn sure don't get "opting out" and targeting.

And we were there before we had Albert and ALBERTA.

No argument from me there. I said that repeatedly at the time. The question you have to ask, though, is why did we overpay? And it’s pretty simple. Our A.D., Mr. Mun-dee, decided to make a spectacle of the process and was publicly left at the altar by the big names we’d pursued, forcing him to settle and grovel in the process. As far as I know, that guy would be making the call again. So as I said, no thanks. You can even genuinely dislike Mullen and still recognize that we got lucky because of who’s run the show.

I think we got lucky that Chip played our AD. No question. How well Frost would do with UF talent, I feel he was more high ceiling and low floor guy. But he wanted to bring his entire staff and got a dummy to allow it. Stricklin got played, no question. Twice by the agent that Butters and Mullen share. We gave a man at 1.5 million raise who hadn't deserved it to save face. If we break off Mullen, he shouldn't be the only one to go.

Yup. Stricklin and the rest of the AD office need to go first.

Otherwise, it will be just more of the same for the Lost Decades.

Right. Anyone really trust that Stricklin would go out and land the right guy? It was cringeworthy watching him try to play it cool on Twitter with his daily vague comments. “Don’t believe everything you hear”. Yeah, we didn’t hear anything, Scott. We watched you fly to New Hampshire and come back with the exact same passengers and a couple of empty Arby’s bags.

I’m 54, fcktard - I’m eminently familiar with all of those things.

And it’s your mother that is obsessed with me. She’s insatiable for an 80 year old.
