We had an old DC who’s take on blitzing was like rubbing one out...it gets to feeling good so you do it more than you need to and then your mom walks in on you!He ws ALWAYS third and Grantham even when he had much better than Butters' Leftovers talent at Ugaly.
I still just don't get the scheme. what is your take on bringing pressure on every play yet playing man off or cover three or four every play? that seems like the worst possible combination. any more on can hit a quick slant as long as he reads the blitz and since we blitz on every play it's impossible to be fooled.
what am I missing?
I think if you’re going to blitz, situationally the line to gain should be six yards or more with two high (if the formation allows) with at least one of the safeties and a LB to defend the slant, CB’s pressing hard to slow the release. I’m not a big zone guy with the type passing offenses you see these days. I’m also not wild about any zero coverages. I don’t think our DB’s are coached to be as physical as they need to be is a big part of the problem.
