Interesting, where was that?

Which Republic?

Uzbekistan. I lived in Tashkent, the capital.

Based in Cyprus, the Dutch company I worked for was a consulting company. Basically, we assisted Western, mostly European companies, to transact business in the country. Our biggest contracts were assisting a French company to import cisterns of alcohol to a state agency that then distilled it into the most undrinkable vodka and cognac I've ever been forced to drink and agricultural consulting where we assisted with the import of fully functional, 60 hectare Dutch potato farms including seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, machinery and Dutch farmers to assist the locals. We did a lot of smaller stuff - importing mostly - and we sponsored a Tashkent-based, top division soccer team - but those two state contracts were the biggies. We actually hired goons complete with AKs to accompany the alcohol trains to prevent them from being stolen.

This was easily the most fun job I've ever had. I got to travel all over Europe and the former USSR on someone else's nickel....

Smart criminals do not steal the whole train... they know how to "sip" while making sure the train arrives at final destination with the correct volume still on board. This method also works with fuel... allegedly, perhaps. ;)

Not sure, haven't seen it. I know it from personal experience in "The Stans", especially with fuel tanker trucks.

you're right...seems to be a trend

"Mike acts as a lookout while Walt, Jesse, and Todd drain methylamine from the train into the empty buried tank, simultaneously pumping water back in to ensure its weight remains unchanged."

Read up on Mexico shouting down their oil pipeline. Same happens in Ukraine with Natgas.

Like CGgater, I too think the smart thing to choose would be language but my personal preference would be music.

So I choose language. It's lighter to carry than ALL of the musical instruments for one. Baggage tips alone would break you.

You can make a ton of money with both so that's dead even.

The ability to understand what people around me are saying is very intriguing and in today's world, probably a factor of being much safer too.

Yep, language.
:exactly:

My mother is Belgian so I understand most and speak some French. Although French doesn't help much in Florida (dam near worthless), but in the 60s and 70s I also played banjo, mandolin and guitar in everything from Bluegrass to Rock N Roll bands. Music has helped me a lot more. Although I gave up playing for much of my 40 year career as a scientist, in my late 60's, I picked up guitar again. Having a blast learning new songs for living room and campfire times, but I still know almost no one who speaks French.

I am sticking with the topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now you’re talking my language

New Lost City Ramblers, Bill Monroe, Foggy Mountain Boys (Flatt and Scruggs), Dillards, and Doc and Merle Watson were all classic bluegrass bands and I still love to play that music. As I moved to R&R in 1969, I found that Doug Dillard got with Gene Clark (Byrds) and Bernie Leadon (Eagles) and formed a group called the Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark. It was the first cross-over band!

Doug Dillard got with Gene Clark

wow, that's what I grew up on ... (mainly Flatt and Scruggs, and Big Mon).
and... I'm rocking Dillard & Clark on Spotify right now

and I just watched this - it's long, but well worth it:

I learned at a very young age to masturbate with either hand. That has to count for something.
