Always loved the "Daryl's House" shows. Made me recall one which featured another guy from the 70's performing with Daryl. Really good tune....and Todd can still give a go as well. Amazing thing is all these guys are either in or near their 70's! Todd is 72 now....wow. Can't wait to see what the Timberlake's, Beiber's, etc will be like in their 70's. Won't be able to hold a candle to that group from 'our' era.

I saw Fogelberg years ago in Biloxi, MS when this song was released....around 1980 or 81, can't recall. When the lights came on it was only a grand piano and a stool onstage...nothing more. And this show was in the Biloxi Gulf Coast Coliseum....a fairly large venue. There was no band or any accompanying musicians. Fogelberg came out and said he wanted to change things up, and so he gave his band the night off. He played for probably 2 hours--half the time sitting on the stool playing his acoustic and the other half playing the piano. It was without debate one of the top 5 shows I had ever seen. Considering I had seen close to 100 different concerts at that time ranging in every genre you can think of, I was impressed. Always liked him a lot before that show, but seeing him live...one couldn't help but walk away just shaking their heads at how super talented he was. Phenomenal artist, and this song you posted was his iconic crowning achievement.

IMO, he and Billy Joel were the two top 'story tellers' in their song writing. This is Fogelberg's best.

Great band, just goes to show your daddy didn't have to be an orthodontist for you to make it in a rock band. Skunk Baxter could rip a guitar, and left Steely Dan as a founding member to join the Doobs, then became a self- taught analyst for the missile defense program at the Pentagon. Early on played bass with Jimmy James and the Blue Flames (Hendrix was fronting).
This guy is nothing short of amazing. https://wiki2.org/en/Jeff_Baxter
Here's Baxter and his famous Manchu in a Steely Dan cover with some original SD folks and greats like Nathan East. Singer does a great job.

Thanks for the post...I had no idea Skunk was as accomplished as he was regarding the deal of being a self taught analyst for the defense dept. That background story is amazing....truly amazing. In my feeble mind he's always been simply a great guitarist. I had no idea about the other side of him.

And you're right about the singer--he did a great job. First glance I thought it as Jackson Browne up there.

At the 1:00 min marko_O I was shocked to learn Tucker Carlson played with Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders way back then. Hasn't aged a bit. Far right on the photo.

It takes a huge sack to put your name and face on something that bad.

EVERYONE'S A WINNER...THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE

Three, four!

Everybody's talking and no one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs

Always something happening and nothing going on
There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot
They're starving back in China so finish what you got

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- strange days indeed

Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move
Everyone's a winner and nothing left to lose
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu

Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground
Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound
There's a place for us in the movies you just gotta lay around

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama

Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high
Everybody's flying and never touch the sky
There's a UFO over New York and I ain't too surprised
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama, roll!
