Rumor: Mullen was on vacation on NSD

Mullen’s in a pinch or he wouldn’t be begging the NFL for a look. The show cause makes him damaged goods inasmuch as any school looking at him would have to consider the possibility of being penalized merely for hiring him.

Stricklin is in fact playing his cards smart here. His head coach has zero leverage unless the NFL comes calling and the likelihood of that happening after the controversy-marred 8-4 season Mullen just finished isn’t terribly high.

Stated a slightly different way, you could say that Mullen is essentially entering a contract year.

Bama is hiring and/or attempting to hire ex NFL Head Coaches to be coordinators and/or position coaches in college. Cousin Eddie has his interns scouting local Pop Warner games to get potential asst. coaching prospects. Yeah, we are going places.

I’m too lazy at this point to look to see if this was posted in another thread, but is relevant to this discussion...and also rides UT.

After all the UT take down, Matt Hayes (who is definitely someone who can get insider info) addresses the Mullen situation. The paragraph is worth reading, but the TLDR is NFL doesn’t want Mullen, his record is keeping him on for now, but Mullen is on thin ice with embarrassing post games and NCAA infractions.

You got to think that a likely scenario is also that Mullen leaves in a year once the show cause is up. He seems like that type of guy. Pretty sure his feelings are hurt and sure did seem like he said 'F it' after the loss to Bama and packed it in. Positive side is he will probably coach is butt off this year to get some momentum for another job.

He probably will coach his butt off, but he lost to much offensive talent this year for it to matter.
