Emmitt equating our poor tackling with the social ills of the country is a bit too dramatic for my taste.
I think Emmitt’s point is a good one, and directed at the coaching staff, not so much the players. The young tend to follow culture in all times, and our present time offers weakness of mind, sensitivity, coddling, easily offended, etc. This is the default mental state of Western youth. Those in a position to influence and shape immature young minds can snap them out of this laziness. Nick Saban does this, Urban Meyer is another, and the U.S. Marine Corps. There's evidence that Gator's current staff tends toward the seniority system which is indicative of patronizing behavior which is not the optimal approach for achieving team excellence.
Emmitt: "When we challenge people these days, they all get offended because they’ve been challenged. … They want what the next person has, but they’re not willing to go through what that person went through to get it. People are looking for shortcuts..." Emmitt has this right.
