Great research

One thing though, Ronnie Williams was a back to the basket big man that never shot or made a three pointer so I am not sure what you were looking at for this.
You are correct, sir. I have my moments. :bandit:
I didn't start at UF until 87, but for some reason always associated the name Ronnie Williams with a PG.

This has been mentioned a lot especially pointed out by Marine 1. When you are on arun get the very most our of it. Make a 12 pt lead 19 or 20, a 15 pt lead 22-25. Don't sit on it or substitute when it's comfortable. Make the other team become nervous and press, more mistakes will come.

Yeah Billy D's teams were great at extending the lead from 12 to 25 in the blink of an eye. That killer instinct is what we miss badly so hopefully we can get a coach that can instill that into our players.

Lesser talented teams can always beat us because their coaches are more aware of winning tactics than Mike White is. White is oblivious for long stretches, even entire games. IMO, he doesn't stick with the best lineup. That allows opposing runs and UF droughts and that confuses Mike White.

In this losing effort, our Gators were led by Tre Mann who made 17 points, Noah Locke who made 15 points, and Mike White who made no points throughout the entire game.

Ronnie came in with Vernon Delancy and a good PG. Ronnie was money near the basket.; A WIDE body. Delancy had a bizarre two handed jump shot but he could FLY. Once had 40+ against bama on mostly ally oop passes.

I have thought about the same thing.
There’s certainly a lot of bad karma out there that seems to surround him. I will admit that I resent his kneeling for the anthem so I am probably contributing to his challenge

Maybe a young entitled athlete should stick to his game in the future.

I have no proof of my following statement just like others have no proof what I will say isn’t true...but in my heart of hearts I don’t think the majority of these kids really believe in the causes they are kneeling for...the NCAA and many D1 institutions get paid (or have compromised/blackmailed presidents) to push this crap...I don’t think Scottie volunteered is my basic point....that’s why his “it feels good to be myself again” really intrigued me...

This was when I first got season tickets so I remember it all very well.

The point guard you mentioned was Mike Moses and he was a very good point but got home sick for NYC and transferred to St John’s.
A year later Sloan gets Eugene McDowell and he has a legitimate front court with Williams, McDowell, and Delancy
Without Moses, the back court play was awful and the team won 5 games.
I have always wondered how the early Sloan years would have gone had Moses stuck around. Instead he led St Johns into the tournament 3 times.

He had talent and another tall guard who i cannot remember now. But he looked all world at times and then disappear. I gotta go look him up. It was Mike Milligan but they listed him at forward.

Nabe Palmer was the point guard, and he was the worst I've ever seen. He was a turnover machine who couldn't shoot and had tiny, Trump-like hands.

Randall "little head" Leath was also on that team as a sixth man who had the amazing ability to pick up a foul as soon as he stood up from the bench. He had a tiny pin head that looked circus-like on his 6-11 frame. Interesting story on how he got such a tiny head:

Randall was walking on a beach one day and came across a strange-looking bottle. He rubbed the bottle and a stunningly beautiful Barbara Eden-esque genie came out of it. The genie said to Randall, "I'll grant you any wish that you desire."

Randall, having not gotten laid in a while said to her "Oh baby, I wanna get down to some serious sexual intercourse with your hot, genie ass. Let's get it on!"

The genie replied, "I'm sorry, I can't do that Randall," upon which Randall replied, "Well how 'bout a little head??"

My first ever trip to a college BB game was at NC State, Norm Sloan years at NC State... in like 78, my freshman year in HS on the JV team. Our coach was a state alum. We were down by 12 at the half and he told us if you guys come back and win this game I'll take you to NC State to a basketball game. We won by 15. We were just a bunch of farm boys that had never seen sht so that was a big deal.

The other guards were Tony Rogers and Rob Harden and none them were even close to division one players.
Sloan struggled to put an entire team together it seemed. He had a solid front court and no guards then after the bigs graduated, he had strong perimeter players:
Joe Lawrence
Pat Lawrence
Andrew Moten
Ronnie Montgomery
Vermin Maxwell

But had no solid front court players until the last couple of years.
After sitting through all the struggles, I truly appreciated what Billy was able to accomplish but this experience also fuels the frustration with the current state of the program.

I saw Vermin and Dwane play ut in Knoxville. Thompson-Boling Arena is just as bad as Neyland Stadium. Seats are six inches wide, built straight up and there is a nose bleed section.

Sometimes your best lineup just isn't all that good. Castleton, Mann and Appleby all played poorly in crunch time. It's particularly disappointing on Tre's part because he has the skills and talent, but up to this point in his career hasn't shown that ability to take the team on his shoulders and take us home when you need a basket, assist or steal, drive for an & 1, etc to close out an opponent. What you want to see from him is the killer instinct where his best performance is when it counts the most, like a Kyree Irving type player, having the confidence to elevate his play when we need it. Maybe that is still coming as he gains more experience but up to this point, as good as he has been, not being clutch is disappointing.
