2021 Consumer Reports Auto Reliability: 10 most, least reliable cars

I recently rented a Mazda 6 for a week while I had work done on mine. I was impressed with the number of technologically advanced features. There was hardly anything that car didn’t have that a comparably sized BMW did aside from better looks and greater prestige.

The only comment I would add is that reliability rankings should be handicapped to account for the degree of technological daring the brand takes on to deliver higher performance. Of the top 10 in the above Consumer Reports rankings, for example, only Porsche offers cars with torque vectoring, an advanced electronic handling feature that delivers enhanced dynamics and stability. The greater the sophistication, the greater the likelihood of something going wrong.

I’ve always crapped on any corvette made after 1980 (ball park), but that new one is really impressive. In design, HP, and shockingly value. It’ll out perform a lot of Italian cars.

Got a 97 Civic with 170K+, it’s my my commuter car since a 93 F-150 is my other vehicle. Have to replace the distributor every couple of years on the Civic; otherwise no issues. The F-150 has required very little maintenance and it has 250K+ on it.

To me? Very.
I’d say 10 years or 100,000 miles with no major work is reliable My explorer made it to 40,000 miles and needed a new transmission.
Our 2010 Ford Edge has 140000 miles on it. Original brakes, changed the rear shocks and replaced all the fuel injectors when one of them went bad. Other than that, no repairs just routine maintenance. My 2017 Mustang has 52K with no repairs at all. My son's 99 Ranger has 300K. He uses it to four wheel and has to replace the rear differential and have the transfer case rebuilt once. Always owned Ford and never had one go less than 150K.

I love the new corvettes, but looking for a 1958 that I can afford!

The first car I really worked on as a kid was the restoration of a 1959 corvette with my dad.
