Didn't Spurrier use it a bunch, but sort of like a draw play, early at UF (w/ Rhett)? It seems if it's schemed properly it could work a few times a game. It seems like Mullen gives up on it if it gets blown up once or twice.
I would say that TE delay was similar in effect, but it was not off an option. Spurrier especially like those vs linebacker blitzes.

A coach could CALL a tight end delay. it doesn't really require a blitz it just works better with a blitz. you can't really call a shovel pass because it depends on what the defense does. it's more of the third option of the reads in an option play, much like the screen pass if sometimes called as the third option (if you remember that video with Urban Meyer showing it to people in studio).

This feels like the “don’t think Brantley can’t run/he has wheels” talk between 2009 and 2010. Sometimes it’s ok to just acknowledge that things will be different but can still be very good.

I think Jones will be fine, but that statement is crazy, IMO.

you think Ventrel would have been closer?

I'm pretty much positive he wouldn't. or any other linebacker we have.
