So is this the reason Cousin Eddie mails it in during high school recruiting b/c he just figures that he is going to get those 4/5* guys eventually so why should he exert any effort in the beginning?

I can't think of a better measurement of the state of college football for Florida's "big three." UF, scUM, & the Nulls are "ranked" #'s 1, 3, & 4, respectively.
I haven’t researched it, but I suspect it’s kids going out of state, not being happy where they chose and then coming back “home”.

Mullen has had success in the Portal getting talent.

And have we lost any significant players? Off the top of my head I don’t think so in the last couple of cycles. The DB from California, Steele, in 2019 hurt but since then we’ve done well.

I like that these guys, with a reality check, choose Mullen. But he’s got to develop them and WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Butters last class and Mullens first two classes they lost a quarter of the players before fall camp. Which already puts him behind the eight ball. The problem comes with the recruiting classes being less than elite and having to fill those gaps with the portal. Recruiting is the draft you build the team through that and the portal is like Free Agency Market where you fill in holes. If we continue to have to fill at the rate we are through the portal, that doesn't lead to long term success.

The losses are mostly from graduation or leaving early for the draft. The problem are guys that are staying for their 5th year (due to Covid) are guys that need to stay for their 5th year due to their game tape.

Example, look at what the Bucs did this year, one full time player Brady(one of the best all time) through Free Agency, 4 other part time players (Gronk, AB, Fournette spelling) through Free Agency, the rest of the team was build through the draft.

Off the top of my head, I’d say it’s been 50-50 for us or probably a little less. Bowman and Grimes were Floridians coming back, but Jefferson, Greenard, Shorter, and now Gilbert are not. Of those two DTs, I think Shelton is from Ohio someplace, but I have no idea on the kid from Auburn.

We dont have any significant players.

Who is significant? We have a bunch of dudes with pulses that are roster fluff.

The DBs who left because fuchsing Toad wanted to play Taylor and Stiner? The highest ranked QB Dan has landed?

According to whoever was narrating the lineman drills practice video posted today, the Auburn transfer is from Orlando.

I think you’re being generous. I see a whole roster full of guys who probably should’ve taken Akron up on that partial scholarship offer when they had the chance. May be too late now.

I will admit that Mullinz' Akron and Toledo refugees are better than Butters FIU thefts.

and one quarterback named Jones is enough.

Good point, but LSU just lost the equivalent of Pitts to us. We de have Elam, Dexter.

You know, your long-standing axiom that an exciting offense attracts elite talent is actually bearing out a bit after 1.75 years of Trask - at least starting to. 2 5* offensive guys, plus Shorter last year. We’ll see if the offense reverts or morphs into something more contemporary and there’s more to it than just that, but it’s helped.

There is no equivalent to Pitts, he might be the best Tight End prospect as a pass catcher entering the NFL in over a decade (which is why he is rated as a top 10 pick).

I think it's Florida not UF. I think many come home, better weather, the SEC...TV.

But even if we are up to #5...There is still this DC GRANTHAM issue.
