I guess part of me is still somewhat surprised there are Gator fans actually tuning in and watching these games. Mike White is the Muschamp of basketball, he's ruined the program.

It's like being in a toxic relationship with an 8.7 (on a scale of 10) hottie: she's hot enough that when she gets dolled up, she can be the hottest girl in the room and competitive with anyone--and also hot enough for you to know you still "got it" and you tell yourself you can--potentially--get an actual 9+, if you wanted or needed to. The sex is mind-blowing when it happens...but it's infrequent and subject to her oftentimes violent mood swings.

You know deep down it's not going to work out, but every time you think of leaving, she rocks your world sexually out of the blue and you think "well, maybe, just maybe...if this happens more often and she dials down the crazy just a little bit, this could work and she'd be wife material." Then...like clockwork...she does something maddeningly dumb and the cycle begins again.

An abusive relationship, to be sure.

I thought I was watching a re-run of a bad attempt at globetrotter stargazing during the entire first half. How many bad baseline plays, fancy lost dribbling exhibitions and ridiculous intercepted passing does it take before this team understands that winning is solid passing and scoring? And where was Castleton in the first half, well, he was right there trying to get the next star moment on tv with some of those fancy plays (excuse me turnovers). The game is history, but it is worthy of note, that the team played solidly in the second half, but those 15 turnovers in the first half made the difference in a close game versus a blow-out.

Between @Jay26 @Jbossgator8 @stephenPE @Marine1 you all soak up the mediocrity. White is your guy. Have at it.

I soak up basketball. I watch 2 NBA games nearly every night and almost never miss a Miami Heat game. Coached the game for decades. Addicted to the game.
To your comment you have lost your mind. I have said I have absolutely no problem with replacing White. There are far better coaches out there. But I also have said he’s not getting fired anytime soon....although missing the tourney or maybe even a first round exit will put a lot more heat on the AD.

You soak up mediocrity. You love it...it consumes you....and it drives your whining. I don’t whine.

Unlike yourself...I haven’t seen a single poster in the past 2 seasons who would not favor a coaching change.

Last night was a very rare missed game for me. I heard about a ton of turnovers. For several weeks now I have been noting our lack of ball security. We have no strong ballhandlers. Not one. We couple that with poor passing. A recipe for disaster.

Shot 58% from the field and lost.
18 less shots than MO. 18 TOS.
SMH

Averaging more turnovers than assists on the season will doom you more often than not. 18 less shots = slower pace. So much for that fast pace Mike White basketball. When he said playing fast was in his veins we all knew what was coming.

Apparently we may have dated the same girl at some point in the past

Absolutely....assist to turnover ratio is one of the most important stats there is. Guards Should be aiming for 2:1 minimum with elite reaching for 3:1.

I didn’t see the game but high amount of turnovers results in less shots attempted so not necessarily slow pace.

My number 1 objection to MW has been about pace/tempo. So much so that I typically chart it to see how many possessions we run clock to less than 10 seconds before shooting and that has consistently improved this season. Conversely our defensive tempo has not improved. It’s been all over the place. We have the horses to press and trap aggressively but don’t do it often.

I love basketball as well which is the reason why I don’t watch the NBA.
I guess we define basketball differently.

Question for those that saw the game. I’m reading here we had 15 turnovers in the 1st half. Bleacher Report shows 16 for the entire game. Is that possible? 1 T/O in the 2nd half?

Definitely must. I’m good for 10-15 games a week and pre-Covid hit Bayside and the Triple A as often as I could to see my Heat. Always a great time....

18 TOs for the game; we actually had a good 2nd half!

18 for the entire game. That's still only 3 for the second half.

Good point on the turnovers and lack of shots. I had my slow pace blinders on, which are pretty much permanent at this point with MW in charge.

  1. Im also old school. Now that I retired from high school coaching I still go to select high school games to watch as I have so many friends still coaching. It’s rare to see anyone not associated with a school at a HS game. Back in the day the community would come out and support the neighborhood team.

Turnovers led to 25 of mizz points. Just think of what that meant to the final score of the game; more than 1/3 of their points came from our careless handling of the ball. I don't know if anyone on the team reads this board, but poor ball handling has been a topic since the beginning of the season!

Just wondering? Has anybody seen our team exude any joy in their team-personality? Are they enjoying playing the game they love?
Do they play with a consistent repeating BBall-IQ? No? Where does it go? Why hasn't a characteristic consistent IQ and game awareness been inculcated through repetitive practices & gameplays?? Practices & practices. Where is our team's winning attitude? Confident game awareness?

Can correct coaching guide a player away from dribbling into a tall crowd? Does the coach himself have the needed awarenss? Or is this like that hands-off non-coaching like White told past players: "Even if you are missing all your shots, keep shooting." That is not coaching; that's "hands-off" "I don't know what to do". Is there a positive message transferred to the players? Do these Gators have that "not much can be done coaching?" = an inexplicable approach? Stuff like that soaks in, permeates the group-think and how they train.

Apologies for my sorry azz complaining. I am frustrated to the hilt seeing players with high talent not knowing what to do, not being taught how best to play effectively as a team, not being apprised that a change in attack needs to be applied. Where is our $3-million worth of coaching?
