I bought one in the early 80s. Great gas mileage but had to run premium in it or it wouldn't shut off. Also (even though I ran premium) had to replace 3 catalytic converters and two timing belts in.less than 3 years. POS. I hated that damned car. It was less than six months old when some yahoo at UF sideswiped it in the parking lot (field near Shands).

Premium?

th

How could y'all not include the Yugo? I worked in a Food Processing plant in 1987. A worker had one in the parking lot near a loading dock. A dock worker was moving pallets with a forklift and caught the bumper...It tore the bumper off .

It cost so much just to fix the bumper and a new one was so cheap...Insurance TOTALED the Yugo.

Their was no way I would want to be in an accident in that car.

Really DONK...What no STONED?

Worst car ever....was my first car. An Opel GT.

Body built mostly in France, engine mostly in Germany, and a Dd with US tools.

That was an extemely sucky car.....cute, but def. NOT GOOD.

When I first met my wife she had a FIAT X-19. It was tiny and it was crap. FIAT stands for "Fix It Again, Tony." It would always break down on the side of the road and it was terrifying to be in on the highway when driving next to a tractor trailer since the car's roof was equal in height to the truck's tires.

We broke down one time in the middle of a massive 12 lane intersection and I got out to push us into a gas station. As I was pushing and getting the car rolling pretty good I yelled for her to pull into the gas station. Unfortunately, she thought I said to pop the clutch which brought the car to a sudden stop just as I was getting up to running speed. I ended up face planting into the back window in front of about 100 amused commuters.

As I said, that car was tiny. My wife is 5'9' and I'm 6'3"......and yes.......we did.

My wife had an 850 Fiat Spider. It was a piece of crap but was a fun piece of crap. It was rear engine and the front end was so light that if you went over 90mph the front end would lift and you would lose steering. I made a ton of money in college betting people that I could lift the front wheels off the ground.

1988 Hyundai Excel. Got a used one in 1992 for $2000 as my first car. 3 major repairs in less than a year before I got rid of it. Less than 100 HP, had to turn off the A/C to go up a hill (even in Florida).

It was a deadringer for the drive by shooting car in Boyz N The Hood so it had that going for it which was nice.... Hyundai Excel.jpg

I worked with a guy that bought a brand new Yugo,
Of course, we made fun of his dumb ass daily .
To get to the parking spots for the employees, you had to go across some rough Railroad tracks.
He was running late one morning, hit the tracks and broke the damn frame.
It was sitting in the road just across the tracks with one side nearly touching the ground, and the front passenger side off the ground.

As for the Fiat X19
I have an uncle that’s only 4 years older. (Long story, My grandmother waited 23 years to re-marry after my Grandfather left her a f two kids and they never found him. )

Anyway, When I was 19, my uncle and I drive from Virginia to Daytona for the July 4th race, in his X19

I’ll never forget the girls we picked up and then sitting on the back of the seats with their legs wrapped around our necks.
We even picked up a couple “ladies” on Lee Road in Orlando.

But, every time we turned that damn thing off, it wouldn’t crank,
I had to get out and push it off .

Plus, the reverse gear went out somewhere in Savannah.

Good times though.

I don't think those things were $2,000 new.

They were basically built on worn out Mitsubishi tooling. you would have been better off just buying a used Mitsy.

those were pretty cool cars.

the biggest problem were American mechanics who had no idea what a millimeter was.
