I watched the clip. Three times the announcer mentions they were “fighting” in the moments that preceded the hit. I don’t think Payne had any clue what he’d be striking and was definitely taking a blind shot in retaliation. Still out of bounds, imo, so probably warranted a suspension of some type, which he served, in a tournament setting. Beyond that would be overkill, and I think he’s officially back for Sunday. I’m chalking this up as one of the few things White has handled correctly.
It's not too hard to size up where someone's head level is when swinging an elbow with malicious intent. But I agree completely that he has paid his dues by the ejection from the game and now missing the game today. I'm sure he doesn't feel great about it and is ready to get back to work helping his teammates, coaches and fans.

It was a blind shot in that he didn't look, take aim and deliver. Lots of times similar shots are taken but with less damage.
IMO, Payne has served enough court punishment with ejection and sit-out next game (he did). Payne can be punished later in a more extensive punishment = teaching moments that convince. Playing without Payne will broadly spread hurt over his uninvolved teammates.

Technically it did he's a senior?
I still think he deserved a one game suspension. I don't think he's dirty we've all done things like that playing sports in the heat of the moment.
he's a Sophmore

I did not see it, but a suspension was plenty unless he intended to do it. I saw a similar hit a couple of times in our last game, no foul even thought as I had understood it any forceful impact got at least a review. Might be confusing it with football.

I went back and looked at it, it might be Omar was getting down court and when running moved his arm. No way was it say like a professional wrestling move. One game is plenty and perhaps some education on how to move better. No long term punishment from what I saw, now if it was intentional that would make a large difference.

Any residual damages lingering on Fulkerson after the game?

If he came off the top turn-buckle with a brain buster and then threw him into a figure-4, I'd say suspend him from the sport and recommend professional wrestling. Unforthnately fullerton hooked his arm, paine shook that off then then the vol grabbed omar from the back of his jersey as he was headed down court to get to the next play. Did fullerton really believe that omar was going to stop playing, to carry on a conversation? When a player grabs another player to hinder his play, the player hindered has every right to break the grabbing; so, fullerton's head got in the way. I am sad for his injury, but what was he thinking: a game was in progress!!

IMO, when fullerton grabbed omar's Jersey, he should have been called for an intentional foul. The refs probably felt he paid the price, but how about our free throws? That is likely a misinterpretation of the rules; but my misinterpretation of the rules allows me to yell at the TV.

Some say football, not basketball, is a contact sport. They are wrong; football is a collision sport!

Fulkerson was hooking and holding all game. I said early in the first half that someone needed to "take him out", but was surprised when Omar did it. Castleton seemed a bit intimidated by Fulkerson. Fulkerson was intimidated by Jitoboh. Jitoboh should have been instructed to "get physical" with Fulkerson, though not to the extent of knocking him out of the game, just to get Fulkerson to cut back on his own dirty play.

he might of saved our year because the refs might actually blow the whistle... Tired of the no calls ... can't believe you have to elbow someone to get the attention of the refs.

The less physically talented the player, the more they rely on questionable tactics.
