Here's the closing question from Stricklin when hiring basketball/football coaches:

Stricklin: "It's the 2nd half, you get a small lead. What do you do next?"

Prospective coach: "I go with ball-control offense and burn as much clock as I can"

Stricklin: "You're hired! Welcome to the University of Florida"

Difficult to believe anyone cares enough at this point to get upset about it.

I watched 16 seconds of Gator basketball this season - the last 16 seconds last night. I got exactly what I expected.

Let's also not forget that UF got to the Elite Eight because of Chiozza's miracle buzzer beater.

5 thoughts on Florida’s heartbreaking, season-ending loss to Oral Roberts

Looks like we are going to have a massive roster turnover again.

Tre Mann - had a stellar season, will declare for the NBA. He will make some money where ever he goes.

Keyonte Johnson - I really doubt he plays again

Ques Glover - barely played this season, he will transfer to a lesser conference and average 20 a game easy.

Jason Jitoboh - barely played this season, will transfer to a lesser conference and average 10/10. Too fat and slow for big time ball in the SEC

Omar Payne - looking for a fresh start in a lesser conference, doesnt have many skills but will average 12/10

Niels Lane - barely played, will transfer closer to home in the NE

Scottie Lewis - terrible 5* recruit will transfer to get a fresh start probably to his hometown of NJ/Rutgers.

That leaves us with Castleton, Locke, Appleby, Duriji, and incoming freshman 4* shooter Kowacie Reeves. Then whoever we get in grad transfers so that looks like another middle of the road record at 17-14 or so give or take a few wins or losses. Future not looking good at all.

I know Mike white deserves blame but remember who turns the ball over 20 times a game. He even slowed it down and they still make boneheaded passes and dribble off their feet and take awkward shots.
If Mike white comes back I'd kick about four players off the team.

This quote struck me as one of the most incorrect takes on basketball I can recall for one main reason. if you give your offense fast break chances and are always seeking to get into offense, you can be more protective of the ball, because you are not under a sense of self-created urgency/panic.

Low and behold, commons sense is backed up by math. If you take poor ball handlers and give them a smaller opportunity to work to get an open look, then they are more likely to have errors.

This certainly looks like info that would make you want to slow things down, right! I mean...if we had a turnover problem, sure...but....

I hate the sport of bball. Loathe it. Try to avoid all bball threads. I just wanted to offer my approval for this title thread. Bravo
The problem with BB is that the officiating influences the outcome of close games way more than FB. Toward the end of the game Mann pump faked on a 3 attemt and got his man in the air. The defender bumped solidly into Mann while he was in the act of shooting causing him to miss the shot badly with the ball landing in the hands of the Oral Knobslob's player for an easy breakaway dunk or layup, can't recall which. That was a 5 point swing and would be called a foul and 3 FT's 95 times out of 100, particularly by a crew that called 3 or 4 ticktack fouls on a 3 attempts already when the player got bumped long after the shot had been released so that those plays in no way interfered with the player's shot. They call those about 50% of the time. It's a subjective call based on how blatantly the shooter got bumped into to. In fact there were several times on our made 3's that our player got bumped, but after the release so I had no problem with those no-calls. This was just one of multiple egregious one sided calls the refs made in this game.

Bottom line is despite MW's terrible coaching, the refs ultimately put Oral in position to steal a game that without their blatant help they wouldn't have been in position to steal. It's an inherently flawed game due to the influence of the refs and it can't be fixed. You could say the same about baseball with the subjective calling of balls and strikes, but that is an easy fix by using an electronic strike zone that they already have.

Just came to say kudos to whoever made the thread title. Funniest title I’ve ever seen here.

As for the game, I’m not moved either way. Sucks that we lost to Oral Roberts, but a second round ouster was the best case scenario going in.

Can't bear to read this thread. Just here to say that on the first UF possession in which cmw tried to sit on the lead, my wife said: "I don't know anything about basketball, but stalling makes no sense." I think my wife was mistaken; she knows at least as much about basketball as cmw.
Incidentally, Coach Few says his team will be all right as long as they play "fast and loose".
Hah! Shows what he knows.

Yep. That needs to be brought up as much as possible. As does the fact that we blew a big lead down the stretch playing stall ball that allowed Wisconsin to come back and send it to overtime. And then lost to an inferior south Carolina team to miss out on the final four. Same **** different day.
