I used to like a Manhattan, but have been on an Old Fashioned kick the last several years. I'll be in Kentucky again next month, so I'll probably drink 30 or so while I'm there! I usually use Woodford or Basil Hayden's.

I’m not the expert that alky is, and he seems to disagree, but I’ve said several times I think BH is the best bourbon in that 30-40 range. I have all these bottles and find myself always looking for it.

My wife made me a whiskey sour a few weeks back after a rough Friday, but with Sazerac rye. It was good, but I’d take Basil Hayden over it all day, and without the headache to find.

Best old fashioned I ever had was in a morton's in georgetown. My buddy was banging the bartender so we went in there and she let us drink free the whole night.

At one point john kerry sat down next to me, but that's a different story...

Even though I prefer leaving fruit and stuff outta my booze, I had a good old fashioned at the club on Jekyll Island. Actually had several before I watched the rail on the back porch give way and 3-4 dudes take a header 6 feet below. Good times!

Morton’s seems to hire great bartenders. I’ve never had a bad drink at any I’ve tried. If you’re ever in WP, there’s a guy named Terry that you’ll hear people rave about even on sites like TripAdvisor. His signature drink is martinis. I used to spend at least one night a well there in my early years, especially when I was a struggling broker. They used to do $3 martinis and pass around filet sliders on Wednesday. I’d say my friend was in the bathroom and grab an extra each pass. That was dinner. Maybe the best bartender I’ve ever encountered.

The problem w/ cocktails in DC (Old Fashioned's, martini's, mule's, whatever) is they're f*cking $15 or more. When I go to Kentucky and get some of the best OF's I've ever had they say, "That'll be $9." I look around, like I'm being punked, and say, "Okay....I'll take two!" (sometime they're $10 or $11, but they're rarely over $11 or $12 in Kentucky unless it's an expensive bourbon). I used to go out in Georgetown and rarely spent less than $100 (on the bar tab).
