My dad's ears perked up and he started singing along when this song came on...i mean, where the hell had he heard this, i was a teenage punk listening to Nirvana. He sung the whole thing...he knew the original.

Seedy, is your dad a Leadbelly fan (not sure how old he is)? I'm not a Nirvana fan at all, I associate them with the rotten attitude of my teenage daughters in the '90's, but Cobain does a decent job with the old blues classic.

Dad knew the original. He passed in 2018. (Edit: corrected verb tense...oh the shame)

A rare stage appearance for guitar maker PRS. The exotic wood he uses is why the tone is so good.

OK, that was pretty damn good... almost sounds like Sammy Hagar singing. I still can't believe that Steve Winwood was only 19 when he started with Traffic.

Along that same line, hard for me to grasp Pete Frampton being only 18 when he was in Humble Pie. Back in those early days in music across the board I suppose it was kinda normal to be young. Heck George Harrison was just a bit older at 20 when The Beatles caught fire. The rest of them were in their early 20's as well but GH was the youngest. Being that young and making the impact The Beatles did--simply doesn't get any bigger than The Beatles.
Oh to be young again....(and have some talent would help too)

Steve Winwood was 14 or 15 when he played keyboards and sang with the Spencer Davis Group. He wrote I'm a Man.

See, that's just wrong. People that age shouldn't have that kind of talent.;)

I was just using Frampton as an example of hitting it 'big time' kinda, in a higher profile band. According to Wiki, he got started playing in bands at age 12--small time school buddies type, was school mates with David Bowie so you know they played some things together. Seems it was fairly common for all those musicians who eventually made it to legend status all knew each other in their teens. Most all of them have remains friends and a tight knit group up to this day....after 50-60 years knowing each other and playing together! 60 friggin years! That is amazing.

You also left out something else I just saw about Winwood---he was in the Spencer Davis Group at age 14!!!! o_O I heard that before but it seems to slip my mind more often than not. That's some roots right there.

That's mind boggling. Granted, a lot of people might not be familiar with SDG but they weren't a small time group back then at all.

( I posted this about same time you posted your vid on SDG.)
