A must win series this weekend and the guys got it done. Leftwich came back after giving up 2 extra base hits last night to be excellent today. Scott's first appearance since his blister last weekend and he was bad. He is only 1 of 5 pitchers that Sully trusts so he has to get right.

To clarify, the 16 regional hosts sites will be selected on May 10th, so that is after next weekend. I believe if we can sweep UK at UK, that we will comfortably be a regional host. I am guess that the early selection process is so that the schools and the NCAA can prepare each site, given whatever the protocols are in those places. So it is possible (tho not probable) that a team could be selected as a host but not even qualify for the tourney.

I had heard the May 10 selection date so I went to the NCAA site for confirmation but they still have May 31. I guess they haven't bothered to update their information.

Wow HUGE series win today! Not much to complain about again today. Go Gators!!
Except what O & D said referring to small ball.
Any pitcher expecting to last in the bigs better have a curve in his bag of tricks. And what ever happened to bunting the ball to move the runner over? We are only 75% effective in games against stiff competition. I sure hope we can look respectable against KY & Arky. Go Gators...:jog:

Below was found on Baseball America:

Selection Monday is little more than a month away. As college baseball approaches its stretch run, the postseason picture will become clearer and clearer. But, for now, there is still a lot of prognostication needed to produce a Projected Field of 64.

In this unique season, as college baseball plays through a pandemic, the NCAA has adjusted the host site selection. Instead of selecting the regional hosts the day before the Field of 64 is announced on Memorial Day, it will select the 16 hosts the week of May 10 – a few weeks in advance of Selection Monday. The changes are a result of the need to create a testing site at each regional, which can’t be done with just a few days of lead time. That accelerated timeline means potential hosts have just a couple more weeks to impress the committee.

6-0 lead and then 9-1 before the final 11-7 win for the commodes, the Gators were given up for a sweep, but we won the series. Congrats Gators for beating No. 2. Despite the LOB stat, the Gators had runners on base both of the last 2 games. We left bases loaded a couple of times but, when there are runners on, good things can happen and did this weekend! Yes, they were No 2, and at 14-7 in the conference; but the No. 14 Gators aren't that far behind at 13-8.

Not to overlook the hatters, our next sec opponents are the cats. They are a decent team that won one of their games against the vols just like we did earlier in the year. We need to take this series, and if we take the hatters in the process we could be in a good position with 33 or 34 wins for a regional selection during the May 10 week.

There are 11 games left in the season and 9 are in sec series. Georgia is our next opponent in a winnable series and then we take on No. 1. We were there earlier, but couldn't keep it but, if we can win a series in Fayetteville, series wins against 1, 2 and 3 ranked teams will look impressive to end the regular season.

Not sure where exactly to put this, but fun baseball event this weekend by a Gator family, so I'm putting it here. My 12 year old hit his first HR (210-215 fence) after taking a few out in practices and inter-squad scrimmages (he is definitely more of a contact hitter, very low strike out kid, but with enough power if he connects). Even better, it was in the second extra innning (8th), down 1, 1 out, with a runner on in a Sunday travel ball tournament, single elimination game. First pitch walk off for his first HR. It was pretty awesome for him and the whole team, who all went bananas. We've probably watched our kids play several hundred youth (LL and travel) baseball games and only seen a walk-off HR one other time, about 4 years ago.

Thanks for sharing. That is a special moment that I know he will never forget. If he makes the connection between that HR and all the hard work he's done then you are about 75% done with parenting already ; p

Hitting was average and pitching was bad in the first half of the season.

Now our hitting is good now and pitching is average. Clutch pitching has gotten a lot better and that has made a difference. I don't think we can win it all this year because the pitching injuries and Tommy mace has been a disappointment but I would be happy to see us get to the CWS again.

Has Tommy Mace ever really been that good. If he has I don't remember it.

As a frosh he was pretty good as he pitched midweek and out of bullpen on weekends b/c we had Singer, Kowar, et al. It looked like he was making progress, but I am convinced when he got hit in the head with that line drive he has never been the same. When he came back he was not good, like he was not finishing his pitches. He seems to be turning the corner but has not reached the level that most thought he would.
