Bucs coaches excited about "impressive" Kyle Trask

I didn't think Trask was going to translate, but mostly that was being when we saw him in O&B debuts, he was hitting middle linebackers in the numbers. Also wasn't the normal fit for Mullen's offense, and still isn't. I was wrong on that. Going into last season, even Tijuana was a believer in Trask. But to say there wasn't a logical reason not to believe in him before 2019 is revisionist history. The people who recruited Trask didn't even believe in him.
On the one hand, it's true that prior to that Kentucky game where Franks got hurt, we didn't have enough to go on to expect that Trask would end up doing as well as he did. But by the same token, nobody here had seen enough of him to justifiably label him as, "Trash," either.

After seeing what we've all seen now, to me it is very hard to believe that Franks consistently looked better than Trask in practice. So that's the knock on Mullen. But even at the time, nobody was legitimately within their rights to write Trask off as quickly as Donk did.

The Trash nickname was a little much, but what do you expect out of Tijuana?

When a questionable coaching staff who prefer Del Taco over every other option in the Nation to have at qb. Would you really trust them to bring in a diamond in the rough 2* (rivals) qb who would be worth a damn, when so many 3* and greater talent is out there?

Mullen prefers mobile quarterbacks, and we all knew Franks was going to get the nod due to that regardless of all other evidence. He is a hard headed coach, look at the defense we ran against UK in 2018 we new they were going to run, they knew they were going to run. But lets do a 3-4 with no real depth at LB against that. It is completely on this staff.

Tijuana says some really good stuff, and some completely insane stuff. But that Mexican heat is a btch, and has probably partial fried his brain.

GGG is like a Sheriff in an old western town. He won't tolerate anything he deems out of line, and never forgets.

Hopefully Bill Paxton wasn't actually his brother.

There were lots of reports from receivers that Trask was shredding the D running the practice squad,

Oh wait, never mind #Jabba

I could definitely be wrong but the way I remember practice reports, it was the exact opposite, which I've always felt was Mullen's only saving grace in the matter. It seemed like his whole career here there was a similar theme of inconsistency and lack of mental toughness where he couldn't shake off bad throws, or bad days. Mullen talked about him getting too down on himself and beat writers were constantly reporting ups and downs, never anything like what we saw live the last 1.5 years. Either way, it's still a black eye on a QB coach to not recognize it. I just kind of likened it to DW who practiced ok but was near perfect when the lights came on. Again, I could be misremembering.

I followed a couple of the receivers on the twitter machine and that is where I was remembering. Beat writers, no thanks

Interesting. Yeah, I don't generally put a ton of stock in what Andreu and the like say. But it seemed pretty universal. I even remember multiple players coming out in support of Franks after the miami disaster. So I assumed most of the WRs felt like he was the guy.

True. So true. All I can say in my own defense is that my standards for what I deem to be "out of line" are arbitrary, unfair and inconsistently applied.

If you mean Bowl Cut, then yes. And he asked the same damn questions (how is Trash?) every time.

He also thought Guy, and Provancha were the best QBs.

Its pretty easy to look good vs the scout squad.

That is to be expected. He never really played enough to even get his sea legs in HS. Blowouts dont count. Remember when Brantley would come on in relief in a blowout and the announcers said Tebow was the best QB in the SEC AND Brantley was the second?

What is incredibly amazing is for him to go from deer in the headlights (to be expected) to completely in control in sich short time.

I really cant think of a similar player ever. There have been a few basketball players switch to football having never played or playing only one year, but that wasnt at QB. Huge difference.
