Assuming you change out or clean your furnace filters regularly, what kind do you use and how often do you actually change them?

We buy 3M for our units and replace them every 4 months. Our AC guy, who I’ve known for several years suggested a better filter, so we’ve followed his advice. Our houses are older and can get a little dusty out here in the country and at the lake.

Air-Handler.

it’s a Furnace. You use a basic filet and replace it monthly. Don’t use some anti-microbial dust free bullschit. Those are bad.

*Update*
As luck would have it, the compressor on our 15 year old unit gave up the ghost. To be fair, it got hit by lightning 3 years ago, but was repaired. The the service tech talked a bit about the filters and suggested continuing with the 3M (1inch), but replace them monthly to get the best filtration of particulates and to keep a good flow of air. Asked him if a lesser filter would be ok if we replaced them monthly and he said it would be fine as long as you couldn’t see light through the new filter.
