I used to love and live for the opener. I used to crave an injection of UF football. I used to approach the season like anything was possible.

Two-yard completions, pic sixes, botched communication, the wrong quarterback at the helm, Malik Davis getting stuffed at the LOS, and another grossly underachieving Grantham defense. That’s the pain I expect from here on after what I saw last night.

We switched over to the Pink documentary in the second quarter. Yeah, we actually did that. She outphysicals and outsmarts Mullen’s team.
….and boobs.

Gator game + beer+ packed house+max volume = awesome time.

I admire your effort to stay positive, but that game last night was definitely NOT an awesome time. No matter where you watched or how much you drank, I can’t imagine any Gator fan finding that game to be anything but “meh” at best. I was mostly bored, occasionally discouraged, and only really got excited in the 4th quarter when AR 15 made those spectacular plays.

I dunno, Detroit was checking in via videophone and he seemed to be enjoying himself (to put it mildly).

Nice post, cover2.

I’ll add this. I still don’t see why Davis is in as much as he is. Pierce and Weight are better, and Bowman needs to be a part of this offense to get through the year. You already know what you have, and don’t have, with MD.

A positive I saw was Henderson at PR. He was decisive and made something positive each time, with of course the one really big return. Given the offense’s issues, we will likely need field position this year.

Defense will be better slightly but is still either a sack or nothing.

Not taking the FGs three times was dumb. Should’ve been 24-0 at half, and AR should’ve had almost the whole second half, with at least some time with WRs he may actually be playing with later.

The amount of support AR has is going to be hard for Mullen to ignore. Literally everywhere I went throughout the stadium someone was talking about him, how they knew him, watched him grow up, coached him, etc. Not sure I’ve seen that type of ground support for a player since
the last 15. DM can say what he wants but there will be a mutiny if Jones doesn’t clearly earn and maintain the nod. And I saw nothing to indicate that last night.

With a sideways passing plan the TE should see a bunch of opportunities once the opposing d quickly figures out what we’re doing all the time. Bring back the Utah pass baby! :thug2:

Agree about Pierce and Wright. Davis seems like he's quite good at catching the ball, maybe he should be more of a slot position than a RB. Only caveat would be if we open up the throwing game to the RBs a lot more like we did at times last year, which I'm a big fan of.

He is Gillespie to Pierce/Wright(Graham). Anything between the tackles is nearly a lost cause, and whatever is gained would’ve been even better with one of those two. But again, not sure why Bowman isn’t out there more.

It's gotta be lack of understanding the playbook.

Great as usual, but I am very concerned. Our defense was only decent sometimes and mostly poor both against the run and the pass. We did get pressure and caused one turnover but that was on a blitz. FAU moved the ball as the desired all night, that should never have happened. On offense our passing game was invisible, without game type tape and knowing what play was called I don't know if we were holding back at all, if receivers were open, etc. It is clear neither QB has the brain factor at this time, we don't need what we had last year but no passing means losses.

Special teams are another concern. Did we kick off short on purpose or we can't put the ball in the end zone?

The announcers saying defense was good since no scoring was very annoying, we could have had several more offensive series if they played at least fair.

Most disappointing and concerning for a decent year.

Forgot to ask, but was I the only one that thought the clock management at the end of the first half was moronic? Calling a timeout with :15 left and an opponent on our own 41 with a manageable 4th and 6, plus a TO of their own, made no sense to me. I guess he was banking on Taggert going for it and us having a shot from midfield, but there are a number of ways that backfires at a much greater likelihood percentage than the chances of Hail Mary. Only up 14 with them getting the kick to start Q3 makes that a dangerous decision with little upside. And if you aren’t happy with the score up to that point, then stop playing subs in Q2 and put the game away. The whole thing was baffling. It only worked because Taggert made an even less wise decision.

I’ve rolled my eyes the last couple seasons when we’ve seen Malik Davis and Moon trot out on the field . I’m not sure what they worked on in the off-season but both played very well last night . We
May have found something with Doctor Moon being moved to inside backer . He made more plays last night I remember him ever making . Even Burney didn’t look bad . It was good to see so many guys playing on defense . Especially the young backers like Hopper .Our front has improved for sure .

Avery Helm isn’t very good . He had a couple chances early to make stops for short gains and neither time got a hand on the guy . Later he would let a receiver get behind him twice . He’s a special teamer . Not a guy you want playing snaps in close SEC games .Travez wasn’t all that impressive either . I actually thought Perkins was better at star / nickel .
Marshall is the way to go at the other corner .He can learn from his silly PI. Blades is clearly not in playing shape grabbing a face mask on a 3rd down stop . The corner spot opposite Elam and nickel will be interesting . I think Marshall and Perkins are the best options for those spots .

McMillan will be a good one . Liked what I saw even if he needs to change his number. The OL was probably the best thing about last night . Definitely one of the biggest questions coming into the season . We obviously ran well and PP was good for the most part . Granted we didn’t go downfield much .

First two drives were solid for Emory . Quite a
Mess afterward . I thought we should’ve called a timeout after Richardson had to exit with the helmet yank off . The penalty there just put us in a passing spot with a QB just coming back into a not so easy spot there . Didn’t care for the call or taking the penalty .Then of course was the absurd sneak from the 4 on the next drive . Sometimes I wonder if Dan thinks it’s against the rules to kick a FG inside the 10.

The wheel to Davis that should’ve been a pick six was dreadful . As was the pick he threw trying to hit Wells . Neither time was he pressured which is most concerning . There is no spinning the performance from Emory . Too many inexcusable mistakes and poor decisions. If Saturday night was an exam he flunked it . Though I don’t think Dan helped him much with the play calling we saw too many mistakes on where to go with the football for a guy going into year 4 in the program .

I think timeouts like this aren't to save the clock but just to make sure that everyone on your team knows the situation and doesn't get fooled by a trick play or something like that.

Most fans are scoreboard and stat sheet fans and that is okay. But there are some of us (on this board), that are quality of play, game management and bigger picture viewers. If the non scoreboard watchers thought that the history of Cousin Eddie was upward progress as the season progresses, perhaps the tone would be different. But most of us have been around a long time and Cousin Eddie has enough on paper for us to know the outcome. We have been to the "play" before. The cast changes but the outcome is always the same. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Well, congrats to you fortunate few -- you lucky elite who have that "big picture" capability. I assume you are also woke, despise "fly over country " and vote as the MSM demands.
