DM's version of the spread option is comparable to voluntarily undergoing a lobotomy because thinking gives you a bit of a headache.

Admittedly I do not understand the optimal mechanics of quarterbacking. I have never seen another QB (including two-hand touch schoolyard play) besides EJ stand flatfooted and immobile while staring down receivers. He doesn't look like he's ready to pass.

he actually has a decently fast release, which many of our QBs did not. AR ihowever is lightning quick, almost just a flick of the wrist.

I'm not capable of much more than that either, other than noticing that he looks different from throw to throw to me. Compare it to baseball. I don't know exactly what's going on with a pitcher of that level, but I do know if you hang a change up it's going out of the stadium most of the time.

And I do know when quarterbacks are inaccurate it's because their footwork and mechanics are not consistent.

One other thing, sometimes guys can be so good at running that the defense has to work so hard just to contain them that they give up protection. this is really the explanation of guys like Cam Newton and Tim Tebow despite not being great passers still passing for much yardage. AR doesn't look mechanically great to me, his arm motion is funny and sort of sidearm at times, but still he may not NEED to be perfect.

Or they need glasses. I went to school with Willie Jackson (the original) and he was fast and ran good routes. But he couldn't catch consistently. Rumor was the team doc sent him to an optometrist and he got glasses and started catching better. Could have been a rumor. Couldn't ask him myself because he never showed up for class.

USF still had tickets on their side, about a week ago... you might be able to get some through their ticket office.

The problem we are seeing with EJ is exactly what made Trask so good. Trask threw WRs open and EJ, a natural runner, is looking for open receivers before he tucks and runs. I think this is a problem that running QBs are going to have because its almost as if they are really checking the running lanes out as the primary and the receivers as the secondary. Before this season, the play calling for EJ as the backup coming in for a changeup to Trask was the running threat. This is his first season with the whole playbook.

I saw reluctant mechanics and a different form than prior years (and recall I was the one disagreeing with Truth and others that there was any evidence EJ threw a good long ball). In prior years he knew he was coming in for spot duy or a spark and looking to make a play, so he let the ball go more freely - it led to his more natural mechanics (not necessarily better, but usually (as seen with Tebow) the natural throw works better /unless/until you master something new). This game, both INT's looked like he was trying to hand/place the ball in the receiver's hands 15 or 30 yards away. As did his short hops. He wasn't completing his motion, especially through his feet/weight transfer and shoulders.

While I don't have great hope for him moving forward, my one possible positive is because he seemed like he was trying to emulate Trask or be perfect, he missed the throws where he is actually good (15-25 yards across the middle of the field). Perhaps AR pressuring him will change his mindset, allowing him to try to be a playmaker again when throwing (opposed to the impossible of trying to be a perfect QB who places the ball gently in tiny windows - let the puns flow).

See, you're almost there SoFla. I think you're ready. Just try it once, type Dooshbag Dan or Dipshlt Dan.
What the fuch is apropos?
You have to break it down to it's parts and you see Donk was describing himself. A Pro POS. Makes more sense now doesn't it?

I kind of agree. I'm not writing EJ off after one game. Trask was good in his first start but certainly not great. Franks looked great in the 2018 opener and came crashing down a week later. One bad game won't define him. His demeanor was also still good throughout and you can see him congratulating AR after his TD, so there isn't any sulking, which is good. He just needs to regain his confidence and have a good game Saturday so he doesn't go into Alabama already mentally fried. We're not winning that game regardless of who starts, so potentially setting AR back with his first start shouldn't even be a consideration. But beyond that, he has to play wildly better or we'll have to make a permanent switch, because several of those incompletions are picks once we get into SEC play and we don't have the defense to sustain that the way we did in 2018.

This is a great point.

He has been here a long time, but his playing time has been ridiculously limited, basically a few series here and there where he was almost exclusively trusted with only running the option. I dont remember how many passes he has on his career but it isnt too many.
