So I'm going to be driving down from VA to Gainesville the weekend our gators play UT. It's about a 9 hour trip, and I'm going going to to leave Friday morning.

Do you guys have any recommendations on hotels for the weekend? Don't want to spend more than a $100 a night preferably, but at the same time I'd rather not stay in a shady hotel either. Also as far as tickets go for the game, any website in perticlar you guys use? Or know of anyone selling two tickets? This will be my first game in the swamp, so I want to have decent seats if possible. I know here in VA we get big discounts for being a LEO, does UF do anything like that?

Will spend Sunday in Gainesville, so what's some other fun stuff to do, best places to eat etc? Also any one here going to be at the UT game? Should I come early for the tailgating? Thanks for the taking the time to read and answer. Go gators.

I would check Air BnB for a place. Hotels near UF will have jacked rates since it’s Tennessee rightly or wrongly.

Devils Den and Devils Millhopper are great if your looking for nature stuff. Avenues Mall is great if you wanna be sad. Relish Burgers is an amazing local chain with several locations in Gainesville (last I knew it was Gainesville only), Mi Apa if you like Cuban, and/or Yummy House for Chinese. Other great food as well, just wanted to throw out some of my law school go tos.

Not much help on hotels. The Airbnb option may not be a bad idea. Otherwise the Hilton by campus or the hotel at Celebration Point(don’t know the name) would be the best bet. No clue on price range.

For tix, normally I’d say wait until game day and walk along University. But now that everything’s digital, I noticed last week there was little to no presence of ticket sellers. If you can’t find seats at a reasonable price, PM me and I will find you some.

$100/night is a tough call. Although there have been a couple new hotels open, rates I am sure are pretty high. You can try the new hotel opened by UF, hotel Eleo, or Hotel Aloft at the Ortho inst. The hotel by celebration point is pretty good too. But I seriously doubt you will get anything less than 150-175 a night. Other than that you are looking at Lake City. As far as stuff to do on Sunday, Depot park is a cool place and you could stroll on over to First Mag to down a few or walk over to the 4th ave food park to get either satchels, dick mondells or a few other good easy eateries.

As far as tailgating, hell yes come early, that's the best part. And now Gainesville allows open containers so feel free to walk around drinking whatever fine beverage you prefer.

For $100 a night you might have to go to Ocala.

This. You're not going to find a hotel for under $100 that's not "shady" or anywhere near Gainesville. I just cancelled my room at the Residence Inn in Ocala for Saturday nigh (I'm staying w/ some friends in Gainesville instead). I booked it MONTHS ago at the government rate and it was $106 w/ tax.

Lake City is about 45 min North of Gainesville is another option for you. Hotels there in you price range.
Its at the intersection of I-10 and I-75.

If you don’t want to spend over $100/night you won’t be able to stay in anything decent in Gainesville.

Your options include;
Ocala
Your car

Gainesville area hoteliers live and die by football weekends so the rates are high.

As far as things to do, I would recommend you brush up on your woke pronouns before you walk around town.
You wouldn’t want to offend anyone with common sense or anything

Good luck.

Always have had luck with the best western off 39th Ave and 75 when I needed a last minute hotel room on a game weekend at a reasonable price

Guys, save it. Pretty obvious that @Kyng isn't coming anymore as he hasn't even checked in for days. Probably thanks to some of your snide comments, sarcasm and fear mongering about hotel rates.
