Sales tax in Florida is around 6% to 7% but many counties have an additional hotel tax so if you're booking near Disney your $100 room is more like $113. Not sure about Alachua County, but I'd bet their tourism tax is similar. Then there's "resort fees". These are like airlines charging baggage fees. Everybody is starting to do it. It allegedly covers stuff like the pool, the gym, parking, maybe wifi or breakfast, etc. Now you $100 room looks more like $130.

That said, a $100 room is probably going to be a dump anyway.

Prices for everything are going up. Parking at a house near the stadium used to be $5 or $10, it's over $30 now.

I would check AirBnB and VRBO as well as hotels outside of Gainesville itself. I would also increase your hotel budget.

Remember though, it's a 7:00 kickoff. You'll be walking back to your car around 11:00 and traffic is going to suck ass because everybody will be leaving at the same time.

I feel bad because this post makes it sound miserable. It's not. It's fcuking wonderful. It's amazing. It's worth all the time and trouble and worth every penny. I hope you have an absolute blast. Pay for experiences. The memories you make will be worth it.

I'm looking forward to coming to Gainesville this weekend for the Bama game. I got a ticket last night and already have a hotel room reserved so I'm good-to-go. Planning on getting to Florida on Friday afternoon/evening. Will be leaving for home on Sunday morning.

Getting a decent hotel anywhere near a big football game stopped being a 100 dollar transaction many years ago. That being said, maybe there are students nearby willing to make a few extra bucks renting out a room in their house or something. I think I remember on Shark Tank there was a startup trying to make an airBnB type website that specifically catered to event-based room rentals so that people who wanted to rent out a room didn't need a full blown airbnb account to make a few extra bucks.

I hope you have a wonderful trip down to Gainesville and enjoy the pregame festivities.

Then I hope your trip takes a terrible turn and you're fcuking miserable, sad, and depressed for the duration of the game.

Safe travels!

I would suggest that you cancel your reservation. And book the motel in Bronson. Just about 20 miles from the stadium. You'll get the most bang for your buck. Any Alabama fan would fit in great with the residents of that motel.

Also as far as tickets go for the game, any website in perticlar you guys use? Or know of anyone selling two tickets?

As mentioned in another thread regarding price gouging, questionable characters from South Florida, and trailerbammer scum, I am selling my season tix to every game due to youth football schedule (I expect to see more winning from the youth team that the Gators). PM me (or anyone else) if you need tix still to this game or any other.

Hey, that place was across the street from my mechanic, so the hourly rates came in handy while I was waiting for my car! I just had to bring my own cot and soak my shoes in bleach afterward.
If you meant to say next door to it rather than across the street, in a former service station that no longer sold gas, we went to the same mechanic.

Check availability at the Reitz. Not plush, but damned convenient.

Hotel | union.ufl.edu
Stayed there for a Missouri game a few years ago, not the most exciting of matchups, but that's how I got the reservation -- those Reitz Union rooms sell out over a year in advance for big games. Since it's on campus you're not supposed to have alcohol in the rooms, but the hotel is run by hospitality students so they don't enforce the rules. Rooms are not super fancy but plenty nice enough.

The best part about staying there, as you'd imagine, is waking up on game day and walking outside to find yourself on campus, virtually surrounded by all the game day hullabaloo and activity. Can't imagine a better way to re-live the college experience. If feels like you're leaving your dorm room to head out for pre-gaming. Highly recommended. Check for last-minute cancellations.

Have any of you guys actually ever stayed in an AirBnB? With the extra service and cleaning fees plus the same taxes as the hotels they are usually more expensive. Especially for a one or two night stay.

Guys, save it. Pretty obvious that @Kyng isn't coming anymore as he hasn't even checked in for days. Probably thanks to some of your snide comments, sarcasm and fear mongering about hotel rates.

So sorry.

I thought his post was a gag and I was simply playing along.
In my mind, I guy asking for a Gameday hotel room for under $100 is either joking or he set Stewie Griffin’s time machine for 1985.

Either way, I responded appropriately.

Sorry buddy, I've been on midnights and had some f'd up nights. I appreciate all the responses. You guys are great, and I love the honesty from you guys about the hotel rates. I have family in Jacksonville I could stay with, but I wanted to be close and enjoy the atmosphere for the weekend. May just have to get permission from the ole lady to let us pay more.
