So at first glance this is a second week in a row without a lot of marquee matchups. In fact our game with Bama where we are over 2 TD home dogs is one of the biggest games. Maybe we should get some confidence seeing OR were 2 TD dogs in their win last week. But no, I don't see us pulling the upset. Not even covering the spread most likely.

Auburn at PSU is the gameday location this week. Barn are 6 point road dogs and I really have no feel for how good or bad they are this year. I'll be rooting for AU simply because I can't stand Ped State U.

We get a Friday game of some interest with UCF at Louisville with the Cardinals being 7 point home dogs. I'd love to see UCF lose but I think UL are pretty bad.

Of course watching FSU hopefully going to 0-3 could be all kinds of fun, with them traveling to Wake as 5.5 point dogs.

Hopefully Miamuh takes a second L when Mich St travels to play the canes for a Noon kickoff. That game has a strange line with MSU anywhere from 6.5-8 point dogs. I don't see the logic in that line since MSU has looked good with a potent running game behind Wake Transfer Kenneth Walker III who is a stud. Miami meanwhile had to hit a late FG then get lucky with App State receivers dropping pass after pass on the final drive, where they should have been able to attempt a game winning FG. I like MSU to win this one straight up possibly by several scores.

I don't know if it comes with aging or just suffering through a 3rd straight turd of a coach, but I find myself spending a lot more time rooting against teams than pulling for anyone. I guess as they say, misery loves company.

Hope you guys were paying attention. This was absolute free money. MSU is pretty good and scUM is terrible. I got 2:1 odds on MSU on the money line.

Auburn at Ped State looking like a good one. Barn just retook the lead. Hard running, hard hitting.

Can somebody critique this play? It happened yesterday in the Mississippi State - Memphis game. Memphis was given a touchdown on this 94 yard punt return that occurred with 5:47 left to play in the game and put Memphis up 28 -17 in a game eventually won by Memphis 31 - 29.

Shouldn't the play should have been blown dead when the first Mississippi State player, a member of the punting team, downed the ball near the goal line? It seems that one of the refs made a motion to indicate the play was dead. Another thing that has been pointed out is that Memphis had two players wearing number 4 on the field at the same time which should have cost them a penalty. In addition to the number 4 who returned the punt, Memphis had another player wearing number 4 who lined up on the line near the Mississippi State long snapper.

What is also surprising was where was Mississippi State coach Mike Leach? Why wasn't he out on the field demanding the play be reviewed? The SEC office in Birmingham issued a statement today stating the Mississippi State go screwed by the refs who I think were an SEC crew.

You are correct that the official seem to indicate the play was over, but no whistle ever blew. In fact the ball was never dead and the official made a mistake. The ball being touched by the kicking team does NOT make the play over. It is must be downed by the kicking team by controlling it or giving it to the ref. Simply by touching it only means whatever happens after that is meaningless and the return team is at no risk of going over and trying to make a play. It would then revert back to the original touching. Remember touching is not downing. And yes 2 players were wearing the same number which should have been a 5 yard penalty on Memphis.

Yes, that is what I learned. Just the kicking team touching the ball does not mean the ball is downed. The ball must also be handed to the referee. Heads up by the Memphis player to realize the ball was still live and points off for Mike Leach not teaching his players what to do in that situation.

No, it isn't handed to the referee but the ball, although the player should, the key is the ball must be possessed. The first defensive player muffed it. If he had caught it, it would have been down. The second cowbell just touched it for a split second. If he had palmed it and held it still it would have been down.

The other thing is that the refs tend to hold their whistles in the case of a questionable fumble in order to let it play out. If they blow the whistle and replay shows a fumble (or just a failure to control it/live ball in this case) then it screws the recovering team.

Exactly!.. Just like Cousin Eddie physically practicing the mental parts of the game: If you do not plan on returning a kickoff and are standing in the endzone when the ball arrives, DO NOT TOUCH IT!

The 2nd player was on the ground with a knee down and a hand on the ball. It was down.

Holy Shyt. That is not even a KJ bad angle tackle. That was just bizarre. It reminds me of Channing Crowder's last game at UF when running down on punt coverage, instead of trying to tackle the punt returner as he approached him, Crowder turned and blocked a scrotUM player. It was clearly a mail it in play on Crowder's part, but I have no idea what this guy was thinking. Ed Reed I am sure had a word with him immediately on the sideline.

After three weeks it’s quite obvious that there is no dominant team in college football this season…..yet anyway. We all saw Bama get shoved around and gashed yesterday.
Oklahoma almost lost to Tulane and was less than impressive in beating Nebraska.
Oregon did well going into the horseshoe and beating bucknuts, but they struggled to beat Fresno the week before.
Clemson has been awesome on defense, having not allowed an offensive TD after three games, but their offense could only put up 14 points on a Georgia Tech team that allowed 22 to Northern Illinois. During the Trevor Lawrence era, they scored, respectively,49, 52, & 73 points against Tech.
The only team that has so far been as advertised is, I hate to say it, Ugly. Even they though, have either been one dimensional (vs. Clemson) or beaten up on overmatched teams. (UAB & USCe).
Right now, a lot of teams are probably feeling like they could win the Natty. It would be great for the sport if it were somebody new (other than Ugly of course) and this could be the year.

Fresno State is a legit team. They played Oregon down to the wire and just beat up on #15 UCLA who everyone said was back.
