What was interesting, is that minus the first qtr, we played a pretty traditional defense against them. Put our beef on the line, freed the backers to roam and try to make plays, and for the most part let the cornerbacks press up on the recievers instead of giving them 10 yd cushions every snap. Amazing what can happen when you try to play sec style defense.

Speaking of which, I’m curious to know people’s thoughts on Moon at ILB. I haven’t watched the replays to really focus on him, but it seems to me that he’s found his position plus he plays variations off of it, disguising coverages and rushing lanes. Like it’s all come together for him (finally.)

The DL dominated the OL, which allowed anyone at LB to be free. I hope this is something that continues to happen. The LBs played a good game (outside the 1st quarter) because the DL played outstanding. Also the OL being allowed to play the way there supposed to also dominated Bama's front seven.

The question is with the limited sample size, what team do we have.. and we are probably 3 SEC games away from knowing that.

Maybe sooner. I believe we’ll know a lot this Saturday. This is a very depleted Voles team who we should really dominate on both sides of the LOS. Will we?

It's also highly possible that granthem had Moon playing out of position. He's slowly added weight over the last 8 years he's been on the roster, but not enough to be a DE (last I recall, anyway).

he's not a ilb at all. He fast and rangy. He's an olb but considering he's made some plays he looks better by comparison. If granthem hadnt wised up and started putting some beef on the line we wouldn't be as happy. That is making up for his deficiency.

Well, it makes up for a lot of deficiencies. The Brandon Spikes of the world who can take on a tackle or guard one on one and win are few and far between.

We needed to keep our small, fast linebackers clean and three big DL is the way to do it. Like all the rest of the defenses on the planet.

Suck it, Dwagtham. You can bet it wasnt his decision.

Our LBs still kind of suck and are POORLY coached. But at least Moon and Diabetus can cover lots of ground. Moon is really exceptionally fast for such a tall dude.

You know, Bammer still plays a hynrid LB/safety 220 pounds as STAR. And played US that way last year (more importantly with a passing QB) and this. Id prefer to see us doing this and stay more base 4-3. Maybe even with Moon out there.

I still dont like a nickel CB defense as a base. Too damn weak vs run. I wouldnt put that nickel on the field except for third and long or against a great passing QB who is looking to pass.

What if we put that big fatty in the middle when we run nickel?
His name is Mr Deez to you. And he would squash you like a gnat.

It certain helps keep the LBs clean.

But Fat Dwag likes to zone blitz w the DTs covering the #3 receiver. Hard to do with a mountain of a man playing DT.

Should we teach him some OL plays.? Goalline: Desmond followed by Pierce followed by AR with the ball.?

That Bama team isn’t nearly as good as years past. While I still think they’re the most talented team in the country, they’re fairly young and have lots of new starters. That’s why I’m not on the “11-1” train. I was encouraged by our effort after we pretty much didn’t show up in the first quarter, but I remain pessimistic about our ability to continue to play at the level we did for the final 3 quarters.

Is that you Muschump?

Yeah lets pull a guard, a TE and a FB into the 4 hole and play POWER FOOTBALL!!!! it is going to work great!

Or just make a massive pile of bodies and gain zero yards.

Yeah, it's your certainty that no team ever scores from the two.?? Besides, I'd never want my team to follow my "pop-off" schemes, anyway. Nothing wrong with a blocking fullback.

I remember once seeing a study innthe 90s that something like 70 % of the SEC refs were from Alabama.

Ive seen nothing to suggest that has changed. They still seem just as stupid.

I always swore in the 90s most of them were insurance salesman from Ga or Alabama that despised SOS. If you dont believe it just go back and chck the penalty stats.............UF had more 1st and 20s than any 5 other SEC teams combined.
