Rahm couldn’t get a birdie down the stretch when he needed it. Can’t remember the hole #, but when Cantlay flew the green and shorted his pitch, Rahm could’ve tied it up with a bird. Cantlay showed something when he got down for bogie. Their approaches at 18 were outstanding. Today was a great battle and Cantlay leading from wire to wire was pretty amazing.

Well said.

Cantlay also missed a few 4-6 footers that would have extended his lead. The mano-a-mano was dramatic. Rahm is a great player, always in the hunt. This was a great finish, especially after last week.

Nice lead into the Ryder Cup, too. Johnson, Dechambeau & Thomas all seem to be playing well.

It must be a pretty bad injury to withdraw from that tournament. Either that or he’s even more of a whiny wuss than he portrays himself to be.

I’ve got a confession. After teasing @deuce about watching the Solheim Cup, I found myself doing just that on Monday afternoon. I played that morning, not well I would add, so I guess I was a little unfulfilled. To my surprise, I really enjoyed watching the American and European women in the singles and was treated to some outstanding match play. Unfortunately, the girls from across the pond retained the Cup.

One aspect that really stood out was that there was some great putting on display. American Brittany Altomare is in a league of her own. Additionally, several of the players on both sides could really bomb it from the tee and were deadly with the wedges. After following my daughter in high school, I saw some bad golf, so it was pleasing to see the game from the females at a really high level. It didn’t hurt that many of the ladies were nice looking. This event will be on my calendar from here on out.

I’m looking forward to the Ryder Cup. It’ll be interesting to see if Capt. Stricker can crack the code and put together a unified team against the Europeans who seem to simply live for this contest. It’s been interesting reading about Koepka and just how well he will actually mesh with the whole team concept. He’s quite notorious as a loner, aloof and antisocial. He can play the game and excels on the big stage, but it remains to be seen whether he can be interested enough to be a difference maker. One pundit put out that Patrick Reed, who didn’t make the team, was probably better liked than Brooks. Dang! I was hoping Horschel would have been a Captain’s pick, as he is playing some good golf. He was pretty disappointed. Anyway, this should be some good golf viewing.

Now I have a question for you guys in the know…I played a week ago with our school’s new golf coach and he let me hit his Taylormade Sim 3 Wood. Even though it was shafted extra stiff, I hit it farther than my Callaway driver. The feel off the club face was fantastic, “like butter!” Anybody have a similar experience with the newer Taylormade metals? I scrounged up enough cash to order a good used 14* with a stiff shaft. Can’t wait to add it to my bag!

I love the Ryder Cup. The ‘16 match was one of the best and most entertaining golf tournaments ever. I’m extra excited about this year’s event since I’ve played Whistling Straits many times. It’s an awesome course and I’m looking forward to seeing how the US team does there.

Love Billy, and he had that nice win a week ago. But if Brooksie strains his vagina again and can't play, I think Reed would be the replacement based solely on the awesome drama versus McIlroy a few years ago. That was one of the best golf moments I've seen.

That Reed / McIlroy match was in 2016 and it was a great one. Back and forth. I’m not much of a Reed fan, but he can play. Kinda likes to bend a rule every now and then. It won’t happen, but wouldn’t it be good theatre to pair Koepka and De Chambeau? If it was elementary school, we’d have them paired up just to learn how to get along with others. I am looking forward to seeing DeChambeau in the alternate shot. He hits it a ton off the tee, but it’s often in the rough. Wondering if he’ll have to tone his tee shots down?

I'm a big Bryson fan, love how he just made a decision to transform himself and did... and mostly because he gets under Brooksie's thin skin.

But I'm concerned about him for exactly the reasons you state, especially in alternate shot. He puts himself in terrible spots sometimes, 60 yards off the green in the rough when the other guys are 120 out in the fairway and can spin it to four feet. He can overpower a course but Whistling Straits has nearly 200 bunkers and he will undoubtedly find some of them. He's not particularly well-liked on the tour, so I wonder who he'll get paired up with too.

After a stop at the dermatologist, I pulled into Edwin Watts on the way home. First time I’d been in there in 2-3 years. The shop was as I remembered it: well stocked with new and used clubs, balls, clothing, and accessories. There’s a room with a launch monitor for finding the right clubs for the individual. It was nice, neat, and clean and the attendant was polite. What was missing, however, were customers. There was no one else there when I came in nor 30 minutes later when I left. Watts was the gold standard among golf shops in the tri-state area for a long time. I imagine Dick’s and some of the other multi-sports outlets have taken a lot of their business despite offering less options, but I’d also think that it’s just too easy these days to buy online, if you are sure of exactly what you want.

So my question is this: when buying golf equipment and accessories, where do you do most of your shopping and do you look mostly at quality or pricing?

I watched some of the Ryder Cup opening ceremonies and see that Bryson’s on the bench to start day 1. Koepka, on the other hand, was paired with Daniel Berger. They were teammates at F$U, so you’d think there was some chemistry there. The first morning groups can be found here:

Friday Morning Pairings: 5 quick takeaways

It looks very competitive. I’d have to give the US the edge, though. Three of the pairings look fairly even, but Berger / Koepka looks stronger than Fitzpatrick/ Westwood. I’m looking forward to some great competitive golf.

We have a Dick’s and a Scheels here. 2 really big box store. I don’t shop them for gold because the tend to only favor certain brands. I do shop them for football related items for my kids.

We have a Golf Headquarters and that where I exclusively shop for golf. I did purchase a set of wedges via EBay once but that was the only time.
