You’re drinking the SOS kool aid if you buy into the thinking that he didn’t prioritize beating FSU alongside kicking UGA and lowering his handicap. Spurrier has an elephant’s memory (almost as good as mine) when it comes to losing. He has 5-8-1 as a constant gnawing reminder of how he loved to lay it on FSU.

He's super competitive and would have rubbed it in their face if the record was the other way, but I'm also telling you I had a real conversation with him in a social setting that was tee'd up for him to just unleash on FSU with me and recall a great victory over them. At most he spoke to them being a big rival for kids who went to college in the 90's. But he instead turned the conversation to SEC losses and the extra SEC title he could have had. He also mentioned how they won 7 SEC titles, yet no one had won even on before and only 2 since. He paused on that last one, "Urban you know, he only got two of them."

There was only 1 other person in the conversation and no need for him to not go off on FSU or that crushing defeat of them. Hell, he didn't even turn the conversation to 52-20 as much as specific plays in the LSU game he absolutely felt we gave away to a far inferior team (he was right) and costing him a championship.

Agree on the last line. Don’t agree with the others. We lost to fsu because Bowden typically had more talent and just beat us. He cared. There’s a reason he pointed out their cheating or different standard of discipline, even into his Usce days. We just didn’t win that game very often.

Btw, I think uga had four .500 or less seasons in the 90s. No one marvels at Mullen beating the noles or vols right now because they suck. It’s not because he has some determination to do so. At least, it’s not the only factor.
5 wins 8 losses 1 tie, 5.5/14, approx 40% win percentage is worlds apart from 0 wins in 12 attempts.

Five wins in 14 tries is 35.7% winning percentage. I think that's very much within the definition of not winning "very often".

Ftr, the tie is a loss in my book. I'd be shocked if it isn't in Spurrier's as well. Especially with how the rematch went. But that's a separate discussion.

Why would you count a tie as a loss? The numbers are 5.5 divided by 14 which equals 0.393 which is approximately 40%. On the other hand Zero divided by twelve or any other number is still a big fat hunch backed zero.

And how the hell is 5 wins vs 8 wins not winning very often? Does that mean bobby won once in awhile? We can always count on you to go the extra mile to bash the greatest Gator coach of all time.

C’mon, you know me better than that. I’m certainly not trying to pump him. At best I have mixed feelings. I’m not convinced he can take us to the next level and I’m also not sure I want to embark on another grand do-over.
I will immediately become more vocal when the football facility is complete. If he can’t recruit then, he’s gotta go.

I know it might seem like I am not, but I am a pumper wrt Mullen. I don't like the way he does some things but I also recognize that I have never ever coached a single college (or midget) football team. He has built a program in the the last 4 years that has changed the losing culture stank that butters and chump put on the it even though to date he really hasn't accomplished anything more than what butters or chump did during their tenures.

The recruiting is an obvious area of contention but Mullen has been able to pull some rabbits out of hats with the portal to at a minimum maintain the level he raised the program since arriving in G'ville. Keeping some dead weight coaches is also an area of contention, however, I also think keeping a coaching staff with little to no turnover will pay off a lot in the long run. Knox gets a lot of heat but tbh, our running backs look and play great. Gonzo gets shade thrown his way as well but I really don't have many complaints with the depth and play of our WRs either.

But Grantham...muthafuggin Grantham. He is dog sh!te and its not going to get any better. For the life of me, I just don't understand how in the world Coach Mullen continues to back this guy and say things like he is one of the best DCs in the country. It simply is not true. Last season was such a huge opportunity to get into the playoffs and we all know the one and only reason we didn't: Grantham. We've heard nothing but excuses and BS from pumpers about how last season was just weird due to covid and we will be much improved this season, but honestly it really isn't looking that way. We are again in the bottom half in all of college football for defense and those stats are coming off games against FAU, USF and UT.

So in the spirit of what I think 78 is trying to say in this thread, I want Mullen to succeed instead of us doing a full reboot. I just want Grantham to move on. Its looking like another season of coulda shoulda because of Grantham and I just can't handle another season of it. So in the spirit that donkey made a post about all he has to do is fire the defensive staff, I couldn't agree more. We just need to get a new DC and I think a lot of things will change.

For starters, I don’t think I care for your tone.

That aside, I said I consider the tie to be a loss. It was a dreadful performance and one of the worst football related disasters I can remember. But that’s really irrelevant. It’s not technically a loss and doesn’t count as one.

And to be clear, I’m not bashing SOS at all, never implied it was zero wins, and fully agree he’s the greatest. I simply stated a fact about a particular game.

As for the winning percentage, I’m not sure how a tie constitutes a half win in your mind. Spurrier won 5 times in 14 attempts. That’s 35.7%. If I’d known this was your thought process earlier, I could’ve had ‘78 grab a new calculator for you as well at Radio Shack this morning. I’m sure he’s in bed by now, so you’ll just have to trust me.

This is like saying I love my girlfriend, and if she would just completely change the way she is I think it could work out.

Mullen as a head coach is completely established by now. And what's established is that he will never, ever, win anything of substance.

We need another firing and a fumigation of the entire campus.

The problem with that is 35% + 57% (8 of 14) is only 92%. That works as a whole at FSU, but not UF math. If we are going to forget the Choke at Doak (and there are few games we'd rather forget for sure) then lets at least use 13 as the denominator. Otherwise we can use SOS's winning percentage of 35% divided by Booby's (RIP you SOB) 57% and you see of the games that had a winner, Bowden won around 60% of the time and SOS around 40%. Close enough for internet math anyway, and a far cry from not very often in my book.

Meh...I disagree. Ive read all the we should hire this guy or that guy for the last 5-6 years and they all have turned out to be a bunch of bums. Im leaning more towards having stability than continuing to chase these bums. Dabo isn't a genius or anything but he has kept a consistent staff and built a program. I just want Grantham gone to see what happens.

But if Mullen continues to protect him then I want Mullen gone too. We got Richardson next season and nothing is guaranteed after that. If Mullen wastes the Richardson's era with a piece of ****e Grantham defense like he wasted Trask/Pitts/Toney era, I can't defend that at all. Grantham needs to go soon or Mullen loses me. But other than Cristobal, there is nothing but 7 pages of bums listed on this thread as a replacement just like it was nothing but a bunch of bum suggestions before Mullen. Mullen is close, just needs a DC.

I’m torn. Like many others here, I don’t think CDM seems capable of winning an SEC title let alone a Natty, on the other hand, I also know that if we fire him, we are more likely to end up with Zooker, Chimp, or Butters 2.0 than SOS or CUM 2.0. My brain says that’s the chance you have to take if you want the program restored to greatness. My heart says maybe CDM can change/improve and get over the hump. I know my brain is right and my heart is wrong….

If he does wise up and finally get rid of the DC, the one staff member I’d keep is Turner. He seems like a solid recruiter and coach. No problem with jettisoning the others.

It all starts with Fooley. Until he is COMPLETELY gone, it will never change.

Mullen will definitely never win any championships with this staff. Unless he significantly upgrades his staff he will always be a 8, 9 - 10 win coach who never wins the SEC.
