You don't see that with Saban. If the HC manages the team, not just one aspect of it, he should be able to ensure continuity.

There are a lot of things you see with Saban that simply aren’t practical, or easily explained for that matter. He is, and has always been, an outlier. There was a whole discussion on this during the week regarding what’s happened to Clemson? The simple truth? It’s what happens to virtually every team not named Alabama at present. They have to replace talent and have off years. We’re not replicating Saban. Even his closest mimic in Smart is a major step behind.

But, on that note, look at uga. In their best year under KS, they had Pittman on the OL and Tucker as DC. The offense has taken a noticeable step back since Pittman left. Yet their defense hasn’t skipped a beat despite MT leaving.

Probably a few years premature but I think Jamey Chadwell (who I wanted us to hire) would crush it at Florida. But as I said he’s likely a few years away from getting a P5 gig.

DJ Durkin could get a look

I wondered that too, but since he had a little dirt on him from his time at Maryland, I doubt UF would want to touch him. Freeze is probably not a possibility for UF either for the same reason. Not with this administration at least.

Freeze w/ Durkin would be great.

I think this actually makes my point. Saban runs an enterprise. Yes, he has a defensive background, but he runs an enterprise. You'll notice that Saban insists that all facets of the program excel, he'll hire good people, develop staffing pipelines, even encourage innovation (see his changes on offense). Smart on the other hand is a DC playing at being a head coach. Similarly, Mullen is an OC playing at being a head. coach.

Although at this point I would take a bad hire over this moron just to escape the mind numbing dumbness of his press conferences. He makes our football program look so bad every time he's in front of a camera. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room because he's been told by some people that he's a great play caller or a QB developer. So he started to believe his own hype that was based on almost nothing at all. One season with an exceptional QB that he almost never played because he is just that stupid. It took am injury to a BAD QB to get a Heisman finalist on the field. This moron thought Franks was better than Trask. Now we are watching it happen all over again except AR won't see the field even though everyone thinks he should get the reigns. Mullet is so stubborn and stupid that it's probably going to cost him his job here. He doesn't look too broken up about it judging by the sh*t eating grin at midfield on Saturday. Nothing more frustrating than caring more about your football program than the guy that's supposed to be in charge. What a mess.
I think we should get a program loyalist that cqn relate to the kids. A former player would be great. Cant get much worse than this stupid dork.

Mullen has everybody right where he wants. He knew he was supposed to beat Kentucky -- no big praise for that. So, he cared too little. Now, he can get guru-doo credit for pulling the Gators back on track. IMO Mullen's ego drives recklessly. He's already sideswiped AR15.

This guy was the shttt in his day. He won with a game manager and decent talent? Why? Because he willed it to happen and coached them into a mindset (much like Bryant) that they would win and should win. And they could run their plays in their sleep with so much repitition. YOU had to be a man to play for this type of coach. Other than SOS its all I got.

All I know for sure is that the next coach should be a fatty. Some serious fatasses are making a lot of noise right now. I want a big 'ol gut.

With Kerwin Bell now approaching 4 bills, he's looking more attractive all the time. In multiple ways. :yum:
