Anybody remember coach Buster Bishop?

Oh hell yeah. Too bad Buster didn't remember me. I was almost good enough to get on the team. He decided not good enough. Close is OK in horseshoes, and....nearest to the pin. Oh well. RIP buster. RIP what could have been my sub marginal collegiate career. We had some really really good players then. Several who went onto the tour.

Some good players tolerated me back then, Murphy, Melnyk, North, Armstrong. Bean was there but I don't remember playing much with him. My roommate was as good as any of them He won Florida Junior tournaments when he was 14 or 15. But he was a head case. Buster wanted him to keep his swing. Bob did just the opposite, and screwed it up When Bob missed a putt he should have made, he tended to get a little upset and do damage. We called him the green aerator. He was too smart for his own good. Got a Ph.D. in mathematics. Just to keep it interesting he learned Russian. Bob knew my swing and could never figure out why I couldn't get it together. At least once a round one of my drives went into the parking lot and I was toast after that.

Armstrong hit the best iron shots I've ever seen...anywhere. Murphy had some long drawn out backswing. We used to ask him in the middle of his swing if we could play through. He was good though.

We are actually playing at this tourney and we finised at +30. The men suck.

The women look like they might be pretty good. Finished 3rd in season opener cougar classic (played at my home course in Charleston, SC...Yeaman's Hall), another 3rd place at mason rudolph championship and then another 3rd place at windy city classic.

Cougar Classic? Were there a bunch of hot older chicks there?

@gator1946 Did you ever know Ben Duncan Jr.?
Not really. I was a golf rat as an undergrad, primarily in 66-69, maybe through 70. I really don't remember much of 1970. In those years I played almost every day. I do remember that by 72-73 I was tying to finish my dissertation, convince my future wife to marry me (she had graduated so I had to commute to Jacksonville), and get the hell out of there. So I played, but not nearly as much as earlier. Now that I think about it, that's probably why I don't remember Bean very well.

Back in the day (early '90s), I tried to walk on the Gator golf team. I knew I wasn't good enough, but figured what the heck? Of course, I didn't make the team, but I did work at the UF Golf Course all through undergrad and got to be around a lot of good players (Brian Gay, Chris Couch, Paul Tesori, many others). Working the Gator Invitational was one of the most fun weeks of the year at course.
