What bothers me most about this is the utter lack of grace in it. I won’t defend what Gruden wrote and he won’t either. At best it’s inappropriate locker room banter.

But there is no longer opportunity for a person to apologize, do penance if necessary, amend and move on.

In high school I made a bad joke about a black friend’s inability to swim. My black friends got mad as hell at me for it. I learned a hard lesson. They knew my heart, forgave me and we remain friends to this day. I don’t make such stupid jokes or comments anymore. I imagine there are hundreds of guys Gruden coached who know his heart and will receive his apologies.

But no. We can’t have that. The neo-puritans, with their pitchforks, condemn thee! Over. Done.
I’m hoping one day we can get beyond this (will take time unfortunately) and can pick on one another in fun.

I guess even that is a form of bullying and jostling on the pecking order. The question is that any different or worst than any other method of jostling?

If society survives we will know the answer.

Indeed. Progress isn’t made at the guillotine. Ironic to see it at work in a city where anything (else) goes.

I don't believe that Gruden would have thrived or survived in the NFL he was a racist. He definitely had a real lapse in common sense by putting his comments in emails. The NFL , ESPN , are two of the most hypocritical and virtue signaling conglomerates we have, and Gruden fit the profile, and had to go. Of course if you are leftist race baiters like Joy Reed and Joy Behar you can get get away with homophobic comments and jokes with no consequences. Behar on Carl Nassib coming out, “Ana, after they said penetration in the end zone, they lost me,” Behar said as all of the liberal hosts started laughing except for Megan McCain.

Welcome to the new world order Jon. Now I know why your boys crapped the bed against the Bears. Cost me 10 points in my confidence pool.

If Gruden had success with the Raiders, none of this would have come to light. No one stumbles across 10 year old emails. This was a purposeful tactic to get rid of him.

I don't care for Gruden, but what annoys me about this situation is like what Theologator said. The complete lack of grace and willingness to let people grow and learn from their mistakes. Literally everyone on this planet who have the ability to speak have said something offensive about someone else multiple times. And yet, people who are at one time guilty of the same or similar sin are so willing to cast the first stone. It doesn't sit right with me.

The emails were found while the Foreskins were being investigated.

Just some observations/assumptions

1) The bigger picture IMO is not what he said or that it was even 10 years ago…he might really be a racist jerk…does that mean he should lose his job? Being a racist jerk has nothing to do with his job…not to mention to me if he were truly racist he wouldn’t have gone after Goodell or Biden…he would have just singled out DeMaurice…and he probably wouldn’t like being around predominantly black players every day of his life for 40 years

2) I think the overall arching frustration is the one sidedness of cancel culture…whites get ridiculed, heterosexuals get labeled as being phobic of everything, Christians get hated on etc but yet that’s okay? Hypocrisy

Well if you think about it, the same ones behind this are the same ones behind tearing down statues, promoting/normalizing obesity, kids having sex changes, etc…they don’t want us to learn or grow or be better…they just want us erased or kept down

I disagree completely. Lots of progress can be made at the guillotine. It all depends on whose heads are rolling. Killing a ton of worthless politicians would get their attention and make them fear those they govern.
