Report: Richardson inks mid six-figure NIL deal

Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson has yet to start a game in college, though that could change soon. But the redshirt freshman quarterback hasn't waited to cash in on his growing popularity as an explosive playmaker poised to become one of college football's next stars.

According to a report from Forbes, Richardson has secured a mid six-figure name, image and likeness endorsement deal and has plans to seek a few similar deals.

He has signed with Darren Heitner, an attorney and increasingly popular figure in UF circles thanks to his involvement in NIL legislation passed in the last couple years. Heitner noted in the Forbes piece that Richardson is taking a very patient approach when it comes to monetizing his likeness.

"We’re going to take a very different approach than many in this space," Heitner said in the Forbes piece. "Maybe three to five deals in total, six-figure or seven-figure deals. We want to make sure he’s associating with strong companies and being properly valued."

Richardson's value to the Gators couldn't be more clear at this point.

He was a spark plug in the team's first few games of the season but little more than that, as coach Dan Mullen stuck with starter Emory Jones despite some early struggles. But Jones' development has slowed in recent weeks, leaving questions about his long-term upside.

There are question marks about whether he can be a championship-caliber quarterback with further development.

There are no such questions about Richardson, who immediately showed an improved rhythm and feel for the offense on Saturday in leading an attempted comeback against LSU in the second half. The redshirt freshman led four straight touchdown drives, nearly helping Florida dig itself out of a hole created by a thoroughly porous defense.

Richardson has already been hailed as a potential future Heisman Trophy candidate.

That puts him in a unique position as a player with seemingly unlimited upside relative to his current status, but with the distinct disadvantage of not having a large body of work to fall back on. Essentially, companies willing to spend a big chunk on an NIL deal are betting that Richardson will pan out as a superstar. Its a bit of a leap of faith.

"Admittedly, it’s not that easy, but there is some leverage," Heitner said. "Someone in the position of Richardson or Quinn Ewers or Spencer Rattler have leverage because this won’t be the last year they’re competing in college sports. There’s a guarantee they’re going to be here for at least one more year or two more years in college before going pro. Companies realize that and understand that they will have more time to exploit the relationship while the athlete is in school and perhaps renegotiate a deal later on."

Question on this...Goldkamp clearly says that AR signed a mid 6 figure NIL deal and then linked an article to support it that is only saying he is looking to sign just those types of deals. I can't find anything out there that states AR actually signed a 6 figure deal except Goldkamp's article. Did he actually sign a NIL deal for mid 6 figures or is Goldkamp confused?

On a serious note, Son #1 and I were talking about this the other day... I can guarantee you that top coaches will have at least an advisor dedicated to this NIL stuff and incorporate it with recruiting.

So TOP coaches.

You mean coaches who don't just have a stupid look on their face and say "is that even legal" whenever a question about NIL is asked?

On Stadium and Gale podcast, they mentioned this story.

On some NFL show Michael Lombardi, a former NFL GM fwiw, talked about how awesome Richardson has looked and how Mullen is insane for not starting him.
"I know this, in three years Richardson, the kid from Florida, is probably the 1st pick in the draft from TV scouting on Saturday. I mean that kid was sensational. I don't understand what Dan Mullen is watching at practice...how is that guy not the starter every single play? Like I don't understand it, that guy is one of the best players I've seen."

Said his son was at Louisville with Lamar Jackson, and said Richardson looks "way ahead of Lamar".

So all this to say it'll probably be EJ starting against Georgia.

I'm hoping the lottery-winning NIL deal is tied to the Gator brand and he stays here. Prob not, but with Dannyboy still in charge he could flip the bird and jump thru the portal at any time. He HAS to start against the mutts, Has to.

If he doesn't, fire Danny on the field immediately after the loss.

He made mental mistakes in Baton Rouge but you have to be impressed with the decisiveness, the quick release and even the arm strength. And all of that is before you get to the subject of his running ability. He is a certain first-round NFL pick.

If I was Head Coach ... I would have an NIL staff with a finance wizard, marketing wizard, and ncaa lawyer wizard. Task ... get BIG $$$ for players AND sells the UF brand. This is probably the #1 recruiting tool going forward. Rest assured, SABAN probably already has a staff of thousands on it. Thinking out loud ... maybe UF can set up a Corp to do this? Fill it will BRILLIANT DRIVEN PEOPLE.

exactly. His high upside erases any potential downside. Any young QB is going to turn the ball over a couple of times, but his athletic ability will simply take care of it.
Meanwhile, EJ makes the same damn mistakes and some worse mistakes and he's supposed to be a seasoned QB, but has much less upside.

Any coach with half a brain would be rolling the dice with AR-15. If anything EJ should be the change of pace guy, but probably a slot receiver is better position for him. There is no reason AR-15 shouldn't be the starter. He's just better in almost every aspect.

If AR were to sign a NIL deal with a Florida based business then he might be serious about not transferring. Surely by him leaving that would void the deal. Not saying he couldn't get another better deal somewhere else but you'd have to think the businesses doing these deals would have something in the contract making transferring more complicated for the player?

He could transfer and still work through the deal as a local kid, he would still representation of athletes from Gainesville.

Yeah but I would have to think it wouldn't be as lucrative for a business in Gainesville to have uga's heisman winning QB as their "official spokesperson".

I don't know a Gainesville kid would go to UGA, but showing up at Bama wouldn't be far fetched.
