Something has to be done.

FBS schools spent over $533.6 M in dead money

A number of coaches nationwide remain on the hot seat two-thirds of the way through the season, which has already seen eight Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches out of a job and owed dead money -- money owed to fulfill their contracts.

From Jan. 1, 2010 to Jan. 31, 2021, public universities in FBS conferences paid out more than $533.6 million in dead money to head coaches and assistant coaches in football and men's and women's basketball, according to an analysis of financial records obtained by ESPN through state open records laws.

The total does not include tens of millions of dollars in severance payments to coaches who have been fired or resigned since then, including head football coaches at Georgia Southern, LSU, TCU, Texas Tech, Akron, UConn and USC.

Psssstttt.... I heard the Bengals are interested in Dan Mullen and the Jets are interested in the Fat Dwag. Youd better double their salaries.

UF is paying 7.5M a year in dead money to coach that hasn't been fired yet,

What's another 12.5M to $533M,

Two words ... I should have become a crappy coach so I could get paid $MMs for doing a $hit job.

Ok... thats more than two words but I'm not really into numbers ... too subjective ... like 4-4.

This is an insane amount. Buyouts are absolutely ridiculous. But this also screams that schools hire schmucks.

Great point but it seems we want to hire coaches for even more money. I read that we should get Oklahoma's coach like that is even possible. If we tried he would get a large increase, more security and we would get nothing.

Yes the system is way out of control, but fans want to win no matter what and that leads agents to getting contracts with these features.
