I'm not an Xs and Os guy. But, I can't fathom a 3-3-5 defense going up against UGly's o-line and power run game. The bloody massacre that would occur.

:fear::fear::fear::fear::fear::fear:

MSU did it last year and held UGA to 8 rushing yards.

And against Bama's greatest team of all time...they were held under 500 yards of total offense. MSU lost that game because they didn't have an offense that could keep up.

Youd think this guy has stock in 3-3-5.com.

This. I like that the OP brought up a different topic to discuss. He even tried to make some arguments for it. But, as @ltraz said, "there are reasons so few people run a 3-3." When's the last time a team won a natty running a 3-3-5? I can see the reason for a 3-3-5 in the Mountain West for the Lil 12. But, what would the the purpose in running it in the SEC?

Lol, there is no 3-3-5.com. I checked.

I think it is recruiting for two reasons. Jesse's and Joe's > X' and O's and at the end of the day you are going to have Kirby and Saban telling recruits they run an NFL defense. If you can't say that, then you aren't going to be competitive in recruiting. If NFL teams aren't doing it, then you can't really sell it to recruits.

The other reason is also recruiting, but for a different reason. No teams on the east coast run this defense that I am aware of. So if you want to hire a guru who can run the 3-3-5, then you have to hire a west coast guy with zero southeast recruiting connections.

I think the data supports the defense's effectiveness, but we'd fall further behind Bama and UGA if we hired someone with 0 southeast recruiting connections to run a defense that NFL teams don't run. We are the kind of school that wants to compete for the top recruits, so that means it is a no go for a place like UF.

I've always been a fan of the 3-5-5 that Dooley ran against Lsu back in 2010. It looked legit.
pretty sure it was 6-4-4 goal line.

It definitely was not just 12 men on the field.

I’m a big fan of the 1-5-5 fat Todd would run for us . I think my favorite part was the hefty bastard asking Burney and Diabate to line up in the A gap and chicken fight with guards while LSU ran counter 50’****ing times .

Not just Franks, but a Franks led MacNuss offense. I remember how mad I was after that game. All off-season to prepare for that game, and MacNuss laid a giant turd.
I'm pretty sure Butterteeth had a master's degree in laying giant turds.

Looks like 6-3-4 to me.

the hilarious part is that the LSUs tight end on the right side is still WIDE open, with 13 defenders.

Each coach trying to out-dumb the other.

Millionaires.

We would run a 2-2-6. 2’s because none of them are really DL or LB and 6 because this is an advanced scheme and by only playing 10 they would think we weren’t ready. But we would blitz from the sideline. #grantham
