Probably Hafley or Clausen from the ACC. Stricklin will screw this up.

My single biggest request is that we don’t acquire the “this is the current landscape” mindset. Yes, I get that recruiting is huge. Yes, I get that offense is key. But we have to be proactive and avoid being reactive. At UF, whenever we’ve had great success it’s in bucking the current trend not going along with it. Spurrier wasn’t supposed to be able to throw the ball all over the yard. Meyer wasn’t supposed to be able to win with the spread option. Yet both did. In contrast, WM was a knee jerk response to then’09 SECCG. McElwain was a borrowed assistant from another’s tree. And Mullen was a response to years of poor offense.

Again, Florida has always had its own identity. As long as we hire a true winner, that isn’t trying to mimic some other program and truly embraces who we are and what we have, I think we will be fine.

You have some very nice points in your post. I see the UF identity as:

1. Offense: Pass first, but competent run to take advantage of the types of players in the state.

2. Defense: Solid tackles and then speed, speed, speed again to take advantage of the type of players in Florida.

3. Meritocracy: May the best man win. I do understand that Mullen felt the need to not recruit over upperclass guys, but there is a limit to that and it cost him his job. UF was a meritocracy under Spurrier, Meyer moved the program somewhat away from that and Mullen just took it too far.

4. As Spurrier said, you have very few chances in a football career to represent UF. You can not afford to waste them ala McElwain going to OT against FAU or Mullen against Stamford this year, not to mention various other times.

Maybe there are others like Gators don't fight with Gators in practive, ie a family oriented program. What specific trends do you worry about UF following in this hire?

It's rare for a practice to go by that some player isnt fighting or getting chippy with someone else. It is just what happens when 200-300 lb kids practice going to war. Meyer tried to encourage it.

Western Kentucky OC Zach Kittley is going to be a superstar. But probably on the wrong timeline for us.

Is 5 years really that long? You’re acting like he’s 91 and last coached in 1953 with an onion on his belt.
We need a guy with energy, ready to bring the heat.

Bob’s dickin’ around with Vince McMahon and enjoying his 401(k) to buy Mai Tais at 2PM

you really think he’s got the focus and drive?

LOL. WHY DO YOU GUYS ALL LOVE THE SAME FUCHSING GUY? Will you be surprised when he does the SAME FUCHSING THING as the last two guys? He is LITERALLY a McElwain protege, who already failed catastrophically as an OC (at Clemson) and is more run run run punt than either McElwain or Mullinz?

Are you not capable of thinking on your own and just listen to the same fuchsing people in the media who parrot the same **** about Mullinz and Matt fuchsing Campbell? Or Fuentes for that matter. Same damn boring ass guys.

I just copied names. I have no idea who any of them are, hence asking the question. Being from bayou land, I followed the LSU coaching search with one eye open, and Napier is one the list. I’m not on the search committee, nor do I go back and pull threads from 5 years ago to say who was right or wrong on internet message boards. Besides, everyone will hate the hire unless steve spurrier comes out the old folks home to coach again. One chatter member will love the hire and get roasted in 2025 when the next coach is fired

Don't care about any of this. I'm an Al Davis/Vince Lombardi kind of guy. Just win baby. Winning isn't everything, its the only thing. Everything else is just noise.

It's not that long in grownup years, but the significance of five years is that one whole cycle of high school kids have gone through since the last time his name was in circulation as an active coach.

Just checked Brohm's record. Yawn. He's a great fit for South Carolina or Arkansas.
He has had a great offensive strategy, but when you take the Purdue job, you prove you are not that guy. He isn't recruiting, doesn't have a defense, and doesn't have the desire to be elite.

Napier is a run run run run run guy. And he isn't that good at it. I think his best offense is 40th or so. He is Muschump's wet dream.
