Of course, there’s an underlying issue that this administration is not willing to provide the resources necessary to compete for titles, like schools such as Bama and A&M do. While the HC salary will be fine, the money for staff and assistants will not. This is why we are likely to settle for someone we don’t like.

I think the money's there: Mullen was in the top 7 highest-paid coaches last year; and--shockingly enough--Grantham was the 4th highest-paid assistant coaches.

Unless it's a big-name like Stoops or an NFL guy, there's no need to pay our next coach $7.5M; and there's certainly **multiple** guys we could hire for less than what we paid Grantham who would get better results. Let's hope the administration cuts down the salaries of the next coach and DC and reinvests that into hiring additional assistants and analysts.

Dude, we aren't getting away with paying ANYONE in this cycle less than Mullen was making; we'll almost certainly have to pay more.

I concede it's probably unlikely; but I could see a scenario where we hire a less-proven coach like Napier for $5M and build in incentives that increase total comp.

They didn't when Pell was hired, and he changed the culture.... similar with Spurrier and Meyer... the right head coach will provide the leadership to change expectations and resources... hell even Butters got a full sized practice facility.
let's face it, they fired Butters because he biiitched publicly about their lack of support.

Not sure what people think has changed.

I think Napier would laugh in Stricklin's face if he was offered 5 million per. Right or wrong, that's simply way below current market value and would be an insult.

So now we are drooling over another run-first, run second, run last coach like napier and thinking his record at a toilet water conference will transfer to UF? Makes me shudder

We aren't - Stricklin is.

I think he's going to laugh if they don't guarantee a hundred or so staff positions.

and I just can't imagine these tight asses doing that.

Our athletic department doesnt even want to pay full price for an entire coaching staff. they want three or four recent graduate assistant types that make half the going rate.

Maybe. Definitely not saying you're wrong because as you said: right or wrong, that's the way the market's trended.

That said: it's been done before. Steve Sarkisian's Texas deal was a six-year $34.2M contract, with base salary of $5.2M with increases built-in every year. Both Florida and Texas are expecting similar things in their coaches: ability to recruit well, put up offense, carry the brand, compete for championships, and beat hated divisional rivals.

Napier comes with a lot of risk--and if our administration has any business sense whatsoever (which I strongly doubt given their track record), they use that to their advantage when negotiating a contract and buyout. Napier wants a large staff and to pay for it, might have to accept a smaller starting salary with built-in escalators if he does well.

Bless that man. He is all-Gator.

Definitely think his comments before the Mizzou game tipped his hat about forcing the administration to act. Many former players were vocal online and in the media--and if the historical face of the program comes out with pointed criticism...bye bye
