If it is him it means we are committed to building up the program. Rumors about him declining the Auburn/USCe jobs last year are that they balked at the demands for $$ for infrastructure

This is definitely the biggest question mark and what we're all wondering the most. How would Billy Napier use AR15? Enquiring minds want to know.

Probably outside of $$ for infrastructure, this is the second most important thing.

Would need to hire an OC or at least alter his system a bit. They tossed the ball around a little while he was OC at ASU. Pretty balanced during that time so hopefully something more of this

Interesting you say this. My in-law Barners were just telling me that Napier is the one they wanted instead of Harsin.

It would have been a much better hire for them in the long run. I fully expect if the hire is Napier that we will start attracting top talent in the state again. First step to getting back to the pinnacle is winning on the trail; something I think Napier completely understands and is why he is likely demanding as much as he is to run a major program

Because our last few coaches were right in lock-step with the state media? Don't understand this take. What's the culture? To sit back and be lazy and let the inmates run the asylum?

If ever this destroyed program needed a no-nonsense hick, it's now.

The cache has been cleared. We’re starting fresh. It’s perfectly okay to construct the “best” candidate from top to bottom using the Ben Franklin method. Whoever it is wont be able to check every single box. You’re looking for the best fit based on a set of priorities.

I’m simply pointing out the obvious, that the honeymoon would be awkward and potentially short with a guy like Napier. It could get ugly. How does he and the media face adversity?

I feel this is a Mike White style hire. We'll see some uptick in recruiting (not hard) and a decent manager who will get us to decent bowls but no real chance to be competitive for championships regularly. He is even from the same general region as Mike White. This is Stricklin's default move.

He's a "safe" hire in that he'll do ok, but no real meat. If we are going to do that, I'd rather see us bring back somebody like Brian Johnson who showed great skills in adapting and recruiting and give him a chance to be great. If really Napier, we will have him for 7-9 years and be what Georgia was under Richt.

Our state and local sports media is mostly a bunch of dolts. But dolts or not, they know the program is in ruins and they just want to win. I think they'll be all over Napier in a good way.

We've had two straight hideously lazy coaches. Napier is going to be the complete opposite and I think people will eat it up.

Smart. Lets hire a QB coach to be HC...great choice

Serious question; is your life really that miserable that you hang out on GC all day and cry and whine about every little thing.
He would have been whining and crying no matter who the choice was. It's all he knows. This is a guy who hated Urban Meyer despite all the titles, for God's sake.

It feels like choosing between buying shares of Nvidia or Sherwin Williams. Napier operates in the industrials sector. Pass.

this is all fun and all but this search isn’t over yet. I have no sources but I don’t believe stricklins not going to reach out to a few candidates. it’s too big a hire.

The guys from group of 5 that step up into our league or other power five conferences have generally performed poorly and/or underwhelmed. Frost, Fuente, Norvell, Chad Morris all have either had poor results or been fired already. Morris in particular was a complete disaster and was a former Dabo assistant as well. We'll see on Heupel.
Though if it does work out for him he'll definitely be the exception.

I will say I've never watched the ragin cajuns play outside of a few highlights and the end of the Iowa State
game last year. Which obviously worked out pretty well for Napier. His time with Clemson, Bama and the
year he spent at ASU as a play caller is more important to me than his record in a lower level league. I wonder what
the Aztec fans think of him, and the other programs as well that he was a part of. He'd be down the list for me,
but if he's the guy we hire I'll take a wait and see approach. Regardless of who the hire is year 1 is a mulligan.
We do have some talent, but it's a poorly prepared and undisciplined bunch.

The question is how much? If it’s reasonable I’m fine with the chance. If he does what he needs to make it exciting and beat some good teams sometimes I’m ok with the hire.

If he’s going to be lazy and take the easy way out, move along.

Kind of what happens when your favorite team is Free Shoes U and they suck so you live your life on a rival message board

One thing I heard during all this was getting this done "quickly". Stricklin was very big on not dragging this out.

If true, it's Stricklin doesn't like to be embarrassed on the national stage like he did 4 years ago... and if that is also true he should be fired for being just as lazy as Mullen.
