Smart. Lets hire a QB coach to be HC...great choice

Doesn't have to be Brian. Just a thought. With Napier, I'll support but don't expect to compete for championships very often. We've tried the HC retreads in McElwain and Mullens. Going the same direction here Napier.

Can you actually point to how Napier is like those two in any capacity?

Interesting you say this. My in-law Barners were just telling me that Napier is the one they wanted instead of Harsin.

I can confirm. My nephew is an Auburn grad and the alumni base was pissed they couldn't land Napier and want Harsin to take the Washington opening.

I look at McElwain at Colorado and Napier at UL. Granted Napier had a couple more years than McElwain, but very similar first couple.

So because they both coached at G5 programs, theyre the same person because that is literally the only similarity between the two at those respective programs.

This is Butter redux. Except he has a worse offense. I guess he won his division. Hell Butters won his division here.

Napier has been FIRED as an OC. He’s been a HC for only 3 years! Oh and btw he’s NEVER even won his conference. In the FVKING Sunbelt.

A couple people read a couple articles that he knows how to build a program right and consider that gospel?

Nobody knew who he was a month ago. All of a sudden because LSU is supposedly interested we JUST have to have him?

Goldkamp just put up some info on him and LSU last night. He’s angling hard for LSU and his PR team is in full swing. But LSU is only somewhat interested. As a backup’s backup.

Supposedly Napier wants a program that wants a program that builds steady success so he has his eyes on VT. Because Beamer was there for a couple decades.

why do I think that is? Because he’s never won anything of consequence.

Maybe that changes this year. Maybe he wins his conference.

Maybe he is as good as everybody says.

I just don’t think there’s any way that Stricklin has hired Napier after one visit. And not interviewed anybody else. If so, he should be fired on the spot.

I know you don't like the hire, but let's not make sh!t up.

After a four-year stint as Alabama's WR coach including a second national championship in January 2016, he was hired by Todd Graham to become offensive coordinator at Arizona State. In Napier's first season back at OC since being fired as Clemson's OC back in 2010, his offense led Arizona State to finish with a 7–5 record and a Sun Bowl trip. Arizona State fired head coach Todd Graham after the 2017 season and brought in former NFL coach Herm Edwards, who stated publicly that Napier would be able to continue in his role as OC if he would like. However, Napier declined the opportunity to remain at ASU as the offensive coordinator.

He won the conference LAST YEAR. Geezum crow.

As I read every one of your points, I say no way, Jose. Bad fit. We want now, fun and fireworks. This is slow, plodding and boringly efficient.

I didnt even really know who he was 2 days ago so my first reaction was 'who?'

I did a lot of looking at him yesterday and see a lot to like about him. If he brings the same approach here that he did there then I am good with it because it probably means he forced our UAA to do the things needed to compete now. The whole butters thing really scares me though and Im scared our offense is going to be run heavy possession ball but I kinda think with what I have read about him thus far he understands that the transition to Florida from UL will mean he will need to build a SEC caliber staff and his days of being the HC and OC will be done.

So for me, right now without knowing how he builds his staff I will be okay with the hire but as soon as he starts bringing his Sun Belt staff I will jump the fence pretty quick.

EDIT: There are rumors out there that the reason he was fired from Clemson is because he put Dabo on the ground with a punch because he found out that Dabo was changing his plays on the ground during games. That makes me like him a lot more and though it is heresay so is the whole stuff people are saying about him being too loyal to his assistants.

"Butter Redux"....

Terrible take. Guy has a much better record and recruiting record than Shark Humper ever had at CSU and has played for his conference championship unlike Butters. Hell everyone loves Hugh Freeze, yet Napier has curb stomped him every time they have played.

"Nobody Knew Who He Was".....

Uh yeah thats why Auburn and USCe tried to hire him last year and failed. Hell Auburn fans today still want him over Harsin.

Listen you can hate the hire but you also don't have to come on here and be CNN about the guy either.

In all honesty, he should have never been given the OC job and was more of a "we need somebody". Dabo is very involved in the play calling and back then, the OC would have been INO.

That is some inside info I have from a person connected to Clemson from that time frame.

Stricklin knows about the fan bases' obsession with offense.
Knowing what the fans want, and giving them what they want, are two separate things.

Stricklin has done absolutely NOTHING for the fans, until the pressure to do so put his job in jeopardy. He’s bargain shopping again, with little care about the fan’s experience.
