I hated the Mullen hiring. I don’t hate the thought of Napier being hired because there is potential. With Mullen there was no hope. I think Napier could evolve the offense to be more attacking if he needs to. If not, and he struggles, then we’ll just move on to someone else. There are no home run hires out there, no sure bets. Napier has just as good a shot as any of the names being floated.

I just had too much hope that Mullen would turn out fine. With Napier I feel is would be as you say. I just cannot fathom why Mullen would not adapt. If you're playing a team that can't stop the run, you have a Pierce, line up and cram it down their throats (a la LSU). Just plain too arrogant. But think Napier had a little better insight. We need more of a CEO/manager to rebuild this thing. Seems as if Napier will be the one.

Personally, once the hire has been made, I think hope is probably the best plan for us fans. Its certainly preferable to despair - which if appropriate arrives soon enough!

I found Mullen’s inability to adapt puzzling and clearly an indication of his personality flaws. Giving his prior experience at UF and as a HC in the SEC, he was well prepared to come to Gainesville and succeed; he just didn’t have it in him.

And no matter who we hire, somebody here will despair.
Everyone may want to log off after Napier is announced. We'll have personal shots at his wife, kids, parents, anyone who has ever known him. Threats to decapitate Stricklin, etc.....

.....all because we didn't land Lame Kitten.

Good article on Napier from Will Miles:

Billy Napier is the favorite to be the next Gators head coach. Should he be? - Read and Reaction

Things I like about Napier:

1. Strong & committed recruiter
2. Has excelled where he is
3. Appears to get and has built the organizational structure & culture issues necessary to compete in every aspect of the program. Impressed he did that at a Sun Belt program.
4. Is a sharp coach - development & game day.

Concerns:
1. Don’t know if he’s in over his head until he’s leading in the deep water.
2. Will he adapt his offense and attract the players necessary to compete for SEC championships?
3. Will he listen to SOS?
4. Will he hire key big time championship-level experience or think his Sun Belt crew can git r done? Meyer brought a number of guys but also hired Greg Mattison & retained Charlie Strong.

And I think Stricklin is right about the advantages in coming to UF right now: brand new football facilities upgrade about to open, tradition, great university, recruiting region, etc. It’s lining up if we get the right guy and they let him build the staff properly.

.
You guys are so funny. he got fired rather than adapting his offense at Clemson and he did not adapt his offense at Lafayette, why exactly should we believe he suddenly going to change his stripes?

We could've had a guy who has done this everywhere he has coached.

Instead, we got Napier. Now, I have to look at Donkey's avatar for the next 4 years.

I'm personally excited for Napier to be named HC because he has demands that would mean a level of dedication to this program from this administration that we have never seen. That alone gets me excited, to completely throw out the Foley playbook. What he does as a coach remains to be seen but we should at least be pulling in top 5 recruiting classes every year.
