Unless you string a bunch of strikes together, it's nearly impossible to get a 200 with an open frame in the middle of the game. Straight bowlers like me always end up with an open frame somewhere.

I’ve bowled a 300 in open bowling (on 2 lanes, so semi-legit). 279 was my highest in league play, with a 209 average one summer league. This all happened before I was 20. I also worked in a bowling alley in high school, and had my foot crushed in the back by one of the machines as I was trying to clear a pin jam. Didn’t bowl a lot after I started at UF.

I’ve bowled since I was 5 and have gotten better with age. Last season’s average was 208, but I’ve finished as high as 213 before a couple of season’s ago. Only got one 300, but with countless games between 279-299. You could take my average and subtract 30 and that’s what I’d probably bowl on pro conditions. It’s a different beast once you start adding a ton of oil to the lanes.

I rarely break 100. Usually have close to that by the 5th or 6th frame, but by then, the 5th or 6th beer and several shots have kicked in and I no longer give a **** and just throw the ball as far as I can just to hear it hit the hardwood. Almost always ends up in the gutter or next lane. And them some dweeb called "the manager" suggests I leave. Really, not my sport!
