NGL, it does make me wonder why they didn't go after an established big fish vs the hot new fish. But it is what it is at this point.

Stricklin learned from Mullen that it’s actually new-school cool to play down to the competition. Think small, baby.

LSU showing it will stop at nothing to get its guy and unafraid of the consequences. You gotta love that attitude. It’s old-school refreshing.
Yep, swinging for the fences and might strike out. Might knock it out of the park (at least from landing their dream target goes).

Seems like we at least swung for extra bases last time around and got a bloop single (at best). This time, we seem to be aiming to move up the runner from first to second. I hope it comes out that some bigger targets were at least contacted and at least one was made to say "no" to a huge offer before settling for McElwain part two.

I’ve come around to thinking LSU will ink Riley. I’ll bet I’m not alone. I mean, he’s going to end up in the SEC anyway and the money offer is incredible. He’d be foolish not to take it.

That said, all the more reason for Stricklin to have acted more methodical. It’s Florida, Virginia Tech and Arizona State vying for Napier. Guess who comes out on top there?
I don't see any reason Riley would leave BlowU for the red stick. He is going to be in the SEC in a couple years anyway. And he learned at Bob Stoops' knee about parlaying desperate programs' offered into huge raises at a school that already has a huge commitment to football success.

There is no reason to start over, especially if the end goal is to get a shot at the NFL or having a long term career in CFB.

This is the exact reason I could see Aranda jumping after Baylor is done for the regular season. He is not going to be in a big time conference at Baylor and he likely won't be in more demand in the future - he is parking now.

You’d know if there was another serious candidate out there. There’s been zero indication of it happening. Stoops denied interest, but that was only after fielding an obligatory question on TV.

Like we knew about Zook, Muschamp, McElwain and Mullen? I guess we knew Stricklin had worked with Mullen, but the others were completely out of left field hires.

Zook and Butters definitely. Chump not so much as at the time he was the consensus next big thing in the media. They expected him to be what Kirby is. Foley was just trying to beat everyone there. I’m still mystified by the Butters hire. Not a single P5 school had him on the radar outside of wasu and Kansas probably. Foley raced out there like the door was being beaten down.

Nebraska had actually had a proposal to McElwain when Foley made contact. There was interest. Enough to justify the full court press? Not sure, but he had turned CSU from trending downward to very competitive in three years.

Nebraska would have made much more sense. I still can’t believe people sat in a room with him and said “that’s our guy, gonna take us places”.

He lost to AF, in his best year.

@PeteThamel: Source: Washington State is finalizing a deal to make interim coach Jake Dickert the permanent head coach. A team meeting has been called for later tonight, and he’s expected to be formally introduced as coach.

what if Stricklin did that with Knox…
I love how we got a 24-7 lead and then decided to stop playing. In attempting to run out the clock, not only did we not use the white-hot Pierce, we used him to BLOCK for Davis! Just total mental illness with this coaching staff. Complete loser mentality.

I'm afraid Sling Blade plays the same kind of ball as well.

Good point. They didn't win a national championship.

It's almost like I said, he had the program going from crashing to promising in the third year. And was in demand more than some here want to acknowledge.

Why it didn't work out here is the same reason many, including me, are skeptical about Napier. Improving a G5 team in your first go round is nice, but does it translate? Who knows, but experience here says no.
