@SoonerScoop: BREAKING: Lincoln Riley joined by defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, WRs coach Dennis Simmons, director of ops Clarke Stroud & strength coach Bennie Wylie arrived a private hanger at Will Rogers airport to depart for Los Angeles this morning.
So he leaves them high and dry, takes half the staff with him, and is already targeting the recruits. This is like the coaching version of the Mayflower moving van.
USC are media darlings. All they need to do is score some flashy touchdowns and win a few games in a row and you’ll be hearing endlessly that they are back and every talking head’s playoff favorite. You’ll be hearing commentators talk about it during Gator games. You won’t be able to escape it.
There’s plenty of talent in CA and USC is a national brand, unlike LSU.
The comparison isn’t really close imo.
It's been reported that Napier was the only one that Stricklin interviewed. But we have no idea what back channel conversations took place.
No doubt it’s true. Rumors are flying that Riley was willing to come to UF for $700,000 a year, and Stricklin wouldn’t even take the call.Sad, if true & if back channel conversations were non-existent or minimal.
It's about winning. Winning magnifies a program. Was Alabama a top job when Saban arrived? No, middle of the road SEC.People are acting like the USC job isn't a big time gig. It is. People are also acting like LSU is way bigger a place than it is. It isn't.
Here's the thing, if the coach does not want to be there it is best he move on. Heupel is replaceable. Mullen taught us that if a coach does not want to be at the school it becomes an embarrassment. Throwing a ton of money does not make a disconnected coach care about the school. It's getting mighty interesting on Rocky Not.
Vols are shytting the bed about Heupel to OU.
ThisIf Napier bombs out we all know Stricklin won’t be given an opportunity to hire another.
Hard to say. The new expanded SEC will be tough. We probably see an expanded play off format as well so more teams will at least make it to what will be the big dance.Lsu is better than usc. Usc is overrated because their talent pool is overrated. You are more likely to win a NC at LSU than at usc.
Not always. I get the idea that Stricklin wanted Billy as the best choice. While I agree in most cases those back channel conversations can be a difference, when someone with two heisman trophies and multiple playoff appearances becomes available you go talk to them in person. Make them say no to your face.
