@BruceFeldmanCFB: There are expectations that Luke Fickell will be in the mix for this IF ND can wait out a potential Playoff run by Cincy, but right now it's Freeman (& the other ND staffers) who have been left to talk recruits off the ledge w/ the Kelly situation. And maybe coach ND in the CFP.

He's had the Irish as a top 10 program for most of his tenure and regularly lands pretty good recruiting classes, despite having to deal with far stricter academic requirements.
They've sucked in playoff games--but have done fairly well in other bowls.
Never won a national championship, but he's delivered some big-time wins there and has the program in the national mix more years than not.
For the record though: I don't see Kelly being a great fit for LSU. He actually runs their more traditional offense (two TEs and a power running game has always been an LSU staple and it's what Kelly has relied on at ND), but just don't see him meshing well with the fans or the culture there. He's too much of a Midwestern guy for an SEC blueblood like LSU.

You want Brian Kelly, and at 15 per year? They didn’t steal anything. They got desperate because of being turned down by everyone with a pulse and threw a blank check at a guy who’s very mehhh.
Riley, by all accounts, was in works with Usc for months. It’s moot now, but I guarantee you if we’d approached him through back channels he’d have said no. He didn’t choose the Trojans over Lsu for money. He wanted an easier path.
There wasn’t really any great name to steal this year. The tigers just tried and it didn’t work until they paid 100mil for a 60 year old who’s had 8-5 and 4-8 seasons in the past 7 years and been a paperweight in the playoff each time they’ve made it.
