Not to sound like Mullen, but all of our regular season losses were within a touchdown. Now look at all the bs stupid, lack of discipline penalties and then add in absolutely miserable special teams play and I feel reasonably confident of at least 2 (kent, mizzou) possibly 3 LSU wins. Then what would we be grading the talent?
You're basing those what if's while including the non returning players....

Pretty much everything we are talking about here is based upon what if's. It just depends on the degree of confidence that you have with it. I just bring up those games because it is a reasonable assumption that if we don't have a gazillion offside penalties at UK and strong special teams coverage we might have a different outcome.

C+ right now. Some positions are strong, but we have some obvious holes.

The Transfer Portal is a wild card here. There are a lot of guys moving because of the massive amount of coaching moves this year and we could benefit from that. If Napier manages to leverage it even as well as Mullen did, we could fill holes on the roster with good talent this year and be competitive. If he really goes after good players in the portal and lands them, we could have something special.

I think we end up fielding a good, disciplined team next year with some promising guys that wins the games it should and loses to teams with big talent advantages. That equates to 8-4, with losses to Utah, LSU, UGly, and ATM.

What position did we win at last night? Yes football is a team game but breaking down the individual battles last night we lost at EVERY position....every damned one,.
Dexter did a pretty good job and the linebacker that got kicked out was making plays.
Biggest disappointment for me last night was missed opportunities, I counted three tds we missed either on under throws or over throws. The bounce on the kickoff we couldn’t get on was BIG. Fl. Wasn’t overwhelmed by personal they were out coached , out played and were just unlucky.

below Bama, UGA, A&M, LSU, Aub, and in line with Kentucky, Miss, Miss St, UT, and above Missouri, Vandy, Arky, USCe

UF is below 9 of those 12 teams. We only know how to struggle at playing. Any team will be doomed hitched to a QB who can only spot one WR. And then, only if that WR is stopped waiting for the slow-flight throw.

C. We have some nice players that with the right coaching/training will be much better. I’m more worried about depth. As bad as it’s been it looks like there are more pieces on D than O to work with after last night.

Can EJ actually throw harder than he does? He reminds me of an infielder lobbing a ground ball to first for the third out because he knows he has plenty of time.

Again you're talking about things that happened with mostly players that won't be here next year....UF got their ass kicked by UCF last night AT EVERY POSITION ON the field....it would have been one thing to lose a game to them for whatever reason but individually they put better players across the board on the field last night.

Current talent is so spotty and uneven that it's hard to give a definitive grade. But my wild guess would be a D+ or a low C - and that's only If Elam stays for another year (unlikely at best). We don't know what is in store for us with the transition class or the TP, but the players brought in by CBN better hit the floor running. Speaking of hitting the floor running, any player not named AR, Hopper, Wingo, Marshal, Torrence or Johnson better get their act together quickly or make other plans that don't include staying in Gainesville for long.

Leave out incoming transfers and new recruits. Give your grade on returning players based on what you've seen this year.

D-
We were clearly out coached last night BUT from what I saw we were also at a talent disadvantage. They were quicker, faster and stronger at nearly every position. Don't make any excuses either about QB's or such as they lost their starting QB early in the season. Up front they were better on both sides of the LOS, they were better in the secondary, they had better playmakers and overcame a terrible, terrible QB....
I'm on the Tator Train but as I said in the box last night if he wins 5 or 6 games he will be doing a helluva job....anymore than that and he is a miracle worker.

I wish some people would take a post like this more seriously. My quick thoughts subject to dramatic change after the transfer portal are:

QB: Richardson, DelRio/Kitna B- (There is too little depth and Richardson is too injury prone possibly. I say possibly since who knows how many games he would have been available for this year had the plan not been to live or die with Jones. The transfer from Ohio State if he comes might be a plus.)

RB: Bowman, Lingard, Wright, B (There is some talent here, but I am not sure it matches the run first Napier offense as well as Pierce would have.)

WR: Henderson, Whittemore, et al. A (There is great talent and lots of other candidates to fill out the rotation.)

TE: Elknis, Odom, Zipperer, et al. A (Again plenty of talent and this seems to be an important position for Napier who often plays two.

OL: Braun, Gouraige, Mincey, White, et al. C (White seems good, Couraige solid, the rest I am less sure about. I do believe that OLs are made not recruited so this will be a very interesting position group this year.)

DL: Cox, Dexter, Umanmielen, Watson et al. B+ (A pretty good group of potential starters, some depth but the depth at D-tackle is unproven.

LB: Borders, Hopper, Wingo et al. C- (An ok group but looks like many of the proven guys are gone and the depth is not great.

S: Johnson, Torrence, et al. D (UF has tons of young candidates here. Surely there must be someone who can learn to tackle and can cover a little among them. But I thought the same thing last off season.)

CB: Helm, Marshall, et al. A- (A little depth concern, but very good talent at this key position)

Specialists: Crawshaw, Smack, Underwood, B (Well Crawshaw is a good punter, but had some iffy efforts at key times. The other two are basically unknowns.)

Overall, this is a B or B+ roster if Richardson remains at UF and healthy for a year.

Where am I too tough and where am I grading too easy?

Instigator this is where you lost me, I just don’t see great talent in the receiving corps, fair to ok is where I would rate them.

Well Henderson is a fast sure handed guy who can take the top off a defense. You did not see that this seasons as Jones would not throw to space. Whittemore is a excellent receiver who gets open and catches the ball. Napier is not going to play four. So the question is among Burke, Frazier, Reynolds and Westin is there one more guy and a rotation guy or will someone like Shorter stay.

But I can see your point of view too. I will say this had this years group had Trask at QB, UF would have another 2 receivers picked in the 2022 NFL draft.

I like Whittemore but seems a bit slow, Henderson is probably best of the lot but do teams really fear him?
Now in the receivers defense I did see a lot of Gator receivers running open last night but Jones for what ever reason couldn’t hook up enough to help.
I hope your right and with the right QB this will be a much improved team next year.

I would give a C for this team. With proper coaching and holes filled by portal players and some recruited help, we'll have a good start for next year. We prob won't play for the SEC east but we won't be bottom feeding with Vandy next year. Our players have talent and really need a staff that can teach simple fundamentals, and then our 4* and 5* players can play how they should have already been playing!!
