The only venture to NO I passed up with SOS at the controls. But I can tell you that Univ. Avenue was rocking that night.

To win our first national title against those aholes from Tallahassee was awesome. To win the way we did after the buildup to the game, having been hosed by the refs in the regular season with a late phantom holding call on a TD pass that would have won the game for us, on top of all the controversy of playing until the echo of the whistle? Priceless.

Not a game goes by that I don't root for every Semi to get hurt. They'll never be forgiven, and it will never be forgotten that we won our first by kicking the ever-living sh*t out of them in Nawlins. Fifty-two to twenty, baby. Suck it, Semis.

Best day in the history of the program. Nothing will ever surpass clubbing Bowden and Co for our first national title. Still get goosebumps thinking about Terry Jackson breaking free for the long TD run that iced it in the 4th.

Even though I was only 18 at the time, I got absolutely blasted in Ybor City that night.

God bless the old Tampa Bay Brewing Company, and their “rounding-up” policy when it came to checking ID’s

Living in NYC at the time with my GF (wife) and I believe it was the turning point for her to become a Gator fan. Awesome night.

A friend and I were at the game and sitting in the middle of a bunch of noles. Generally a horrifying position, but in this case, it was worth the price. I think the high point of the evening to observe noles was the double 15 yard penalties on the same play. Ahhh, the "echo of the whistle" died that night .

On the way home I bought full editions (ads and all) of the Times- Picayune, Democrat, Sun and Tribune; still have them. My wife calls me a horder, but there is no such thing as hording Gator paraphernalia!

Spectacular night. Was in the cardiac step down unit with my Dad who had a triple bypass a few days before, was so glad his room had a TV and he was able to watch our first title as he had been waiting his entire life.

I was a Senior at UF, at home in Brandon, FL, for the Holidays. My parents were still married and living in my childhood home. Right about the time that Spurrier started winding his arm round and round, my parents and I were in a hugging huddle, jumping in circles around our living room.

My Dad was a student at UF when Spur was QB. The pure exhilaration was palpable.

One of the top memories of my life. It's easily top 3, including the birth of my son.

Also, I must add that I'm jealous that Ox received 52-20 on his birthday.

I received the Swindle in the Swamp live and in person on my birthday. :spank:
My 21st birthday, no less.

If it makes you feel a little better, we got crushed by Nebraska on my 20th. That one was less fun.

That does make me feel a little better, but not much.

Also, if you just turned 46 today, then that makes me about 34 days older than you. You child!!

Stationed in Portsmouth, VA. Parents were visiting for Christmas, so dad and I watched the game. The second half was surreal. Enjoyed every minute of it. As much as Danny Boy (the real one) provided lots of highlights, watching the OL impose their will to give Jackson, Williams and Taylor ginormous running lanes was incredibly satisfying.

And one of our daughters was born within a few days of the game.

Mrs G and I were living overseas at the time and were 7 hours ahead of EST. No streaming in those days and we had no access to AFN at our residence. I was able to get one of the Marines to record it for me (they had AFN) and we had to avoid the whole next day hearing about the game - easier for Mrs G as she didn’t work with any Americans. As we had done the same thing the year before and were of course thoroughly disgusted by that game we were hoping desperately that it wouldn’t be a repeat. Needless to say much joy at the much different result!
