Get rid of a pin head coach and the team plays better. Novel concept.
Probably off topic to this thread celebrating a great victory, but...

I coached hockey for a lot of years. Had many young women on our teams and finally coached a girls team for a couple years. It is completely different dealing with girls and boys. Although, I think at younger levels (before the physical differences matter), it was always a positive to have girls on the team...it helped teach young men both to respect their abilities and also respect the differences (especially in the locker room).

Generally, boys respond well to aggressive coaching, challenges, even negative reinforcement applied properly. They respond to accomplishment and measurable successes, no matter how small. Generally, girls do not. They need constant reinforcement that their efforts are appreciated. And negative reinforcement works an a very small percentage of them. Their performance always suffers from negative reinforcement. It doesn't always get better with positive reinforcement, but it NEVER prospers in a negative environment. Never!

This is why Tim Walton has had the success he has had. He manages that balance at a great level.

Our former pinhead coach completely missed the simplist of these principles. You can't berate young women into better performance.

Bama gymnastics hasn't been the dominant team they were since Sarah Patterson retired. Still not bad to finish that close against the Gators...

Besides, Bama is a football basketball softball school... ;)

This is true, not sure Duckworth is the right coach for them, but they did close out last year strong, and they do get the SEC Championship in Birmingham again for another home meet. We will see if they end like they did last year.
