This is similar to the Mike White hire. That’s not a bad thing as long as we’re willing to move on once we know what we have instead of clinging to a sunk cost. We should be finishing year three of the guy who replaced White, but instead that dud got seven years. No one can predict the future but we can make shrewd decisions once we see how assets are panning out.

It’s no different with Napier. He has my automatic support for the next few years.

Billy Ball was a smashing success under Donovan. Neanderthal Ball was an utter failure under White. Nerd Ball is a saving grace and I think will prove to be highly successful here.

In those San Fran highlights, I saw a lot more "without-the-ball" streaking to be clear. All ball handlers are aware. Lots of defense trying to keep up but failing. Rapid ball movement with passer-receiver awareness by the players -- all on the same page ... Practice on display. (With White practice was splayed.) Maybe, just maybe this Golden guy has BBall IQ anew. Can only wait to see. (Pease notice I didn't say "wait and see", which is incorrect.)

Same here, I just don't know how you can hand the keys to a kid that just got his learners permit...
It's a reach for sure. I'd rather reach on a guy like this than hire someone like Grant or Shaka someone we know is middle of the pack at best.

Just so Golden keeps the stars we have signed and ups their enthusiasm on being Gators in his & their inaugural season. Be a fine plus if he made a great portal grab. (I don't think White had any ability at infusing confidence in his players.)

I know nothing about him, but I sure hope he's successful. Time will tell if this is a genius hire or a total bust. This happened fairly quickly, so I suspect Strickland has been looking at potential coaches for awhile.

USF played its final two games of the season (a loss to Gonzaga in the WCC semifinals and Thursday's NCAA defeat against Murray State) without its top post player after 6-foot-9, 240-pound Yauhen Massalskii, who averaged 13.5 points and 9.4 rebounds, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the league tournament. Massalskii was one of six foreign players on the Dons' roster, with the international pipeline something Golden intends to keep active as coach of the Gators.

"An unbelievable eye for talent," Pearl would eventually gush about Golden, who targeted a pair of lightly recruited three-star guards on the recruit trails of southern Georgia. Four years later, Bryce Brown and Jared Harper were leading the Tigers to the 2019 SEC Tournament championship and first Final Four in school history.

Why do I feel like if San Fran had won and St Peter’s had lost we would have hired the Peacock coach? Sure hope there was more to this hire than meets the eye. As others stated, he has my complete support now either way..

I'd like some cream of the crop tall players from eastern European nations -- a pipeline.?

Well it's a much better hire than some dude that likes defense and has the best winning pct in the ACC over the last 10 years. I got like 200 coaches on my list and he'd be dead last. Golden was like no.2 and will likely be a no. 2. Bring out the Febreze.

Suddenly Lindsey Hunter doesn't seem so bad, huh?
